The Langley School District welcomes new Kindergarten students to our schools. Our teachers and staff are excited to meet your family. All children who will be five years old by December 31, 2024 (children born in 2019) are eligible for the Kindergarten program beginning September 3, 2024.

The Langley School District is launching a new online process for Kindergarten registration for the 2024-2025 school year.

Registrations completed between March 2, 2024, through to April 1, 2024, will not be reviewed or approved by school staff until after Spring Break. Families can continue to register their child online during the month of March but please take note that notification of your child’s application status should not be expected until sometime in April 2024.

Please read the following instructions below carefully to assist you and your family. It is important to ensure you have all required documents to expedite the process.

If you have any general questions about Kindergarten registration, please contact the school board office or email: feedback@sd35.bc.ca

For more guidance, read our Kindergarten Brochure.

  • Step 1: Determine how to register your child

Families new to the Langley School District, born outside of Canada and who are not yet Canadian citizens such as Permanent Residents/Refugees/Temporary Residents (Work & Study Permit Holders) please follow the instructions on this webpage here.

If your child is registering to enter Kindergarten in the Langley School District for the current school year (2023-2024), please visit your child’s catchment school. To find your catchment school, use the District’s school locator tool here.  Please note, addresses in the school locator tool will be updated in January 2024. Registration for the current school year is being completed in-person at the school level.

If your child is registering to enter Kindergarten in the Langley School District for the upcoming school year (September entry for 2024-2025), please continue to step 2.

If your child has been accepted into Kindergarten at a District Choice Program for the 2024-2025 school year, you do not need to register at their catchment school.

  • Step 2: Determine your child’s catchment school

To find your catchment school, use the District’s school locator tool here.

Some schools in the Langley School District continue to experience high enrolment, in particular Donna Gabriel Robins Elementary and Willoughby Elementary. In the event these schools reach capacity due to high enrolment, new students will be placed at a neighbouring school in the District. Families can expect notification regarding their child’s application status beginning the week of March 4, 2024, and before the end of April 2024, that is if they have registered prior to March 1, 2024.

  • Step 3: Gather documents required for your child’s registration

You will need to produce the following documents:

    Proof of Child’s Age

One of: Birth Certificate, Certificate of Citizenship, Secure Certificate of Indian Status, Court Order, Canada Immigration Documents, Passport, Permanent Resident Card, other government-issued document

    Proof of Parent/Guardian’s Citizenship Status

    and also

    Proof of Guardianship of Child

One of: Birth Certificate with parent name, Income Tax Statement – children are declared, Immigration Documents, Court Order, Child in Care documentation

  • Step 4: Register your child online via MyEDBC

A desktop or laptop device is strongly recommended to complete online applications. The use of a tablet or mobile phone will be challenging.

If this is your first time registering a child and you have no other children currently attending school in BC, then you will need to start a new MyEDBC account by following these directions in this video here below.

Once you have created an account or if you already have a child attending a school in BC, then you do not need to start a new MyEDBC account. You will need to log in to your existing account and initiate a new application for your child by following these directions in this video here below.

If you have a MyEDBC account and you are having trouble logging in, please visit the District’s MyEDBC help webpage here.

    Additional Information and Instruction

Please take note of the following information to assist you in completing your child’s application form:

    • By submitting an online application form, you hereby declare that, to the best of your knowledge, the provided information in your child’s application form is true and accurate. Your child’s application form is considered a legal document recognized by the Langley School District.
    • One application is required per child. If you have twins or triplets, you will need to submit an application form for each child. Please do not complete more than one application per child.
    • The online application form does not include a separate section for a secondary contact or emergency contacts. Please include one (1) secondary and at least two (2) emergency contacts in the application by clicking on the “+ Add” and creating a new field in the Parent/Guardian/Other Contact section.
    • The District supports early identification and intervention, promotes equitable access to appropriate educational assessments, programming and resources, and recognizes that all students benefit from universally designed curriculum, instruction and environments. Some students with diverse abilities will benefit from modified programming. If your child has previously received Student Services Support, please indicate that in the applicable field in the online form.
    • The District requests vaccination status. Please upload any vaccination documentation or screenshots if possible.
    • The District requires proof of guardianship. Please upload any legal documents such as court orders or child in care documentation.
    • Applications will be approved after the registration period has closed on March 1, 2024. Families can expect notification regarding their child’s application status beginning the week of March 4, 2024, and before the end of April 2024, that is if they have registered before March 1, 2024.
    • Please note, schools with high enrolment may take longer than expected to accept applications due to volume of applicants and to ensure accuracy and equity in the process.
  • How to Apply for a Cross Boundary Registration

The following Cross Boundary Registration process is for families that wish to request to have their child attend a school outside of their catchment area. Please take note, due to enrolment growth in various regions in the District, approval of Cross Boundary Applications is not guaranteed. Approval of these applications is based on a variety of factors including capacity available at schools.

On or after the third Monday in January:

Step 1: ALL parents must register the child at their CATCHMENT school and provide the following documentation: Child’s birth certificate, proof of parent citizenship and proof of address/residence.

Step 2: Request a cross boundary application form from the catchment school and have it signed by the catchment school principal.

Step 3: Take the signed cross boundary application form to the requested school and submit to the principal. Keep a copy for your records.

Decisions regarding cross boundary requests are generally not decided before June 15 and can either be accepted, denied, or deferred on or before September 15 of the upcoming school year.

For more information, please contact either your school principal or Office Services at the School Board Office at 604-534-7891.
