About Us / School Life

Located in the heart of Langley, D.W. Poppy Secondary School is a vibrant learning community where students are encouraged to discover their strengths, pursue their passions, and prepare for a successful future.

At D.W. Poppy, we take pride in our diverse and inclusive school culture. Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, creating a welcoming environment where everyone is valued, respected, and supported. We believe that diversity enriches our community and helps students develop the empathy, understanding, and global perspective needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

D.W. Poppy has a long-standing tradition of excellence in academics, athletics, fine arts, and extracurricular opportunities. Our award-winning music programs and competitive athletic teams reflect the dedication, talent, and school spirit that define the DWP community. Whether students are performing on stage, competing on the field, or exploring new interests in the classroom, they are encouraged to challenge themselves and reach their full potential.

Our mission is to develop knowledgeable, capable, and compassionate learners who are prepared to contribute positively to their communities. We foster curiosity, strong work habits, critical thinking, and resilience while encouraging students to become responsible citizens who respect others, embrace lifelong learning, and approach the future with confidence and purpose.

D.W. Poppy Secondary School is named in honour of David William Poppy Jr., a dedicated leader who served the Township of Langley as Councillor (1944 and 1946–1955), Reeve (1956–1967), and Mayor (1967–1971). His commitment to public service and the local community continues to inspire the values of leadership, service, and excellence that are central to our school today.

At D.W. Poppy Secondary, we are proud of our tradition, inspired by our community, and committed to helping every student succeed.
