LEPS
This week Division 4 worked with LEPS to learn about the creek next to Topham. They learned about typical types of salmon that are in. our area, how to test water PH levels, and found different aquatic bugs that make up our local ecosystem. Two interesting facts we learned for our experience: 1) Our local creek is part of a larger creek called Yorkson Creek. 2)Our creek and the parkland next to Topham is the most contaminated out of all of Walnut Grove...because of dog waste that hasn't been picked up!

The last few weeks have been busy. We had the Terry Fox Run and raised over $5000!! A big thank you to Mr. Mathews and the grade 6/7 students for being leaders that day.

We also came together as a school community and honoured Truth and Reconciliation by having various teachings throughout the week and ending on Friday with a peace circle outside. Many of out students drummed being led by Mrs. Frayne and Mrs. Oakley. It was so amazing to see all of our students silently make a circle, honour the four directions and have a moment of reflection.

The Cross Country team had their first race as well. They have been practicing twice a week and then traveled to Aldergrove Lake Regional Park to finish a 2km trail race! So proud of their first attempt! Thank you to Mrs. De Giusti, Mrs. Frayne and Mrs. Davis for leading the practices and organizing race days.

The Grade 3's enjoyed special time with Elder Karen Gabriel. She talked about making bannock as she grew up and walked the students through the process. Everyone enjoyed delicious, cheesy, jam covered bannock!
