Message from Administration

I hope you and your family had a wonderful summer filled with opportunities to relax, recharge, and enjoy time together.

Our staff has been busy preparing for another exciting year at Langley Fundamental Elementary, and we look forward to welcoming students back on Tuesday, September 8. Classrooms are ready, plans are in place, and we are eager to begin a year of learning, growth, and connection.

I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our dedicated custodial team, Mr. You and Ms. Choi, for their hard work throughout the summer in preparing our school for students and staff. I am also grateful to our teachers and support staff, who have spent time organizing learning spaces, collaborating with colleagues, and designing engaging learning experiences for the year ahead.

A special thank you goes to Ms. Moores for her exceptional work supporting families over the summer. From registrations and inquiries to the many details involved in preparing for a new school year, her dedication and support have been invaluable.

Mr. Olson and I are excited to welcome students and families back for another wonderful year at LFES. Together with our staff, PAC, and broader school community, we remain committed to fostering a caring, inclusive, and supportive environment where every student feels valued, connected, and inspired to succeed. A strong partnership between home and school is one of the cornerstones of our community. When families and educators work together, students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. We look forward to building on these partnerships and working alongside you to support every child's learning, well-being, and success throughout the year.

Welcome Coffee

Join the PAC on September 8th in the gym for a welcome coffee after you drop off your kids.  Say hello and sign up for Hot Lunches!  This program is what the PAC uses to communicate with families about upcoming school and PAC events so even if you don't want to order hot lunch for your kids it is important to sign up for the communications.

First Day Information

Bell Schedule – Tue., Sep. 8 (Grade 1 – 5 Only)    

• 8:38 am - Welcome Bell  
• 8:43 am - Classes begin

An email will be sent from your child’s classroom teacher between Friday, Sep 4 and Sunday, Sep 6, welcoming you to the class and indicating where your child should lineup

Beginning September 9th, all students in Grades 1 – 5 will follow the regular bell schedule for the 26-27 school year.

Kindergarten Start-Up

As per messaging sent over the past several months, Kindergarten students begin a gradual entry schedule beginning on Friday, Sep. 11th. In the meantime, Kindergarten families should have arranged for a scheduled meeting with their child’s classroom teacher on Wednesday, Sep. 9, or Thursday, Sep. 10th. Please refer to email sent to Kindergarten families in July for further information.

Morning Drop-Off and After-School Pick-Up Procedures - LFES Parking Lot

To help ensure the safety of all students and maintain an orderly flow of traffic, please follow these important procedures:

• Designated Pick-Up Contacts Only
  • Students may only be picked up by individuals listed on their emergency contact form. The District will be sending home verification forms to update contact information. Please review, complete, and return these forms as soon as possible.
• Pull Forward Whenever Possible
  • When using the drop-off or pick-up areas, please pull as far forward as possible. This helps keep traffic moving efficiently and reduces congestion for families waiting behind you.
• Arrive Early and Be Patient
  • Allow yourself extra time during busy drop-off and pick-up periods. Patience and careful driving help ensure that all students arrive and depart safely.
• Keep Crosswalks Clear
  • Do not stop or park in crosswalks. Keeping crosswalks clear allows drivers to see students and families who are crossing the street.
• Do Not Drop Off or Pick Up Students on the Street
  • For student safety, please use designated drop-off and pick-up areas only. Avoid stopping on the street, as this creates unsafe conditions and can impede traffic flow.
• Observe School Zone Speed Limits
  • Please slow down and follow all posted speed limits and traffic signs when driving near the school. The safety of our students is our highest priority.

Morning Drop-Off and After-School Pick-Up Procedures - Church Parking Lot

Our kind neighbours and Langley Immanuel Christian Reformed Church allow us to use some of their parking spots at drop-off and pick-up times to help relieve some of the congestion in our main lot.  Please note that we are only allowed to use the gravel parking spots at the church and must leave the paved parking spots for church staff and members.  On another note, this lot is intended for families with Kindergarten or Grade 1 students only.

• One Way Traffic Flow: 
  • Counterclockwise 
• All Spots are Back in Only:  
  • Our youngest students are being picked up and dropped off at this lot and we need to ensure they can be clearly seen. 
• Avoid Parking in the Middle of the Lot  
  • Parking in the middle makes it too difficult for others to enter and exit the parking lot. 

Parking in the Neighbourhood 

• Be A Good Neighbour 
• Make sure you’re not blocking driveways or needlessly preventing the flow of traffic in the surrounding area. 
• Don’t stop in the middle of the street to drop off your child! 

COPS for Cancer & Meet the Teacher Night

Our school community is proud to host another Cops for Cancer fundraiser for the month of September in support of our very own Honorary Member, Everly Vaartstra.

Everly was diagnosed with melanoma in 2024, underwent scans, tests and surgeries but is now doing well. Grateful for the support they received, the family is excited to fundraise with the school for this cause. 

Since 1997, Cops for Cancer has raised $58million to support pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes. 

• Camp Goodtimes is a medically assisted camp for families in BC with a child on a cancer journey
• First Responders ride 100km each day for 6 days in September to raise awareness and funds 
• Mr. Durnin, Tour de Valley riders and Langley RCMP Members have agreed to a celebratory pie in the face assembly again when we reach our fundraising goal of $2300.

Get started this summer with lemonade stand fundraising! The class with the most cash donations will win a special prize!

2026-2027 School Supply Lists - It's not too late to order!

Families, you can now purchase their school supply kits directly from School Start (our official online school supply kit company for your convenience). The supply list for each grade is attached. You may also utilize the same list to purchase your supplies locally. Remember, with School Start's online ordering option you can purchase parts of the additional section if your child already has supplies that are in good order from a previous year - please save money and the environment.

MyEdBC Parent Consent Forms

Each year, Langley Schools asks families to complete a set of parent consent forms for their child. These consent forms are required by our schools to ensure the health, safety, and security of all students.

Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, Langley Schools will be using the MyEdBC parent portal to collect this information. In mid-September, parents/guardians will receive an email from the MyEdBC system notifying families to log in to the MyEdBC parent portal to complete the online consent forms.

A set of consent forms will need to be completed for each child attending a Langley school. It is advised to access MyEdBC and complete the parent consent forms using a desktop or laptop as the process requires the full site version (which is not mobile-friendly).

If your email address or contact information has changed, please call your school to correct it in their files. If you have not received an email regarding consent forms by the end of September or have any questions/concerns, please contact your school administrator.

Library Information 

BC Summer Reading Club 2026: If your child took part in the Fraser Valley Regional Libraries summer reading program, please have your child bring the reading log to the library. Students will choose a small prize from our prize tray for their reading, and the reading logs will be displayed on the bulletin board outside the library. The reading logs will be returned the beginning of October. 

PAC Information

Everyone is welcome in the gym from 8:45-10:00 for a meet and greet! Come sign up for our communications and hot lunches, and enjoy some coffee and treats. Saves you from finding a parking spot again too!

Hot Lunches Signup 

Please sign up for PAC communications and hot lunch ordering on the Hot Lunches website here. Everyone will need to reregister, even if you had an account last year! The access code is Fundy2627 (case sensitive). Our first treat day is September 24th, so sign up soon!

Community Values Coupon Book Fundraiser

Our Community Values Coupon book fundraiser is back! Books will be distributed the second week of school. The cost is $40 per book, and includes new 'Roadtrip' coupons with destinations like Cultus Lake Adventure Park, Abbotsford Canucks, Malahat Skywalk, Vancouver Warriors, HR McMillan Space Centre and more! More information to come, but get the word out to your friends, family and neighbours!

Meet the Teacher and Cops for Cancer Fundraiser Social

Our Meet the Teacher and Cops for Cancer Fundraiser Social will be September 23rd. Our fundraiser concession will run from 5-7, and you will be invited to meet your child's teacher and visit their classroom from 5:30-6:30. 

Breakfast Club Program Volunteers Needed

The Breakfast Club program will begin running again on Wednesday September 9th. We are looking for volunteers to help hand out the food and clean up the kitchen after if needed. Please sign up here. 

PAC Meeting

Our first PAC meeting will be September 15th at 9 am in the music portable! Everyone is welcome! Come hear the plans for our 2026/2027 school year! 

Grade 5 Camp Fundraising

Each year, our Grade 5 students work together to raise funds for a special year-end celebration. As they prepare to move on from LFES, fundraising helps support a fun camp day where students can come together to celebrate their elementary school journey, reflect on their memories, and enjoy time with their classmates before heading to middle school.

Throughout the year, Grade 5 students will participate in a variety of fundraising activities. These efforts not only help make their camp day possible but also teach valuable lessons about teamwork, responsibility, and community involvement.

We appreciate the continued support of our LFES families and community. Your participation in our fundraising events helps create lasting memories for our Grade 5 students as they celebrate this important milestone in their school experience. We look forward to sharing more information about upcoming fundraising opportunities throughout the year!

Odds and Ends

E- Scooters and E-Bikes

Beginning in September 2026, the Langley School District will prohibit e-scooters and e-dirt bikes on all school sites, including elementary, middle, and secondary schools.

E-pedal bikes remain permitted at secondary schools in accordance with provincial regulations:

• Light e-bikes: students aged 14-15
• Standard e-bikes: students aged 16+

Families are asked to review these expectations with their children to help ensure student safety and compliance with District guidelines.

The District has communicated these guidelines to schools and families and will continue to share reminders throughout the school year. For additional information, please refer to the District's E-Scooter Guidelines webpage and FAQ resources.

Dress for the Weather

Students should come prepared for outdoor activities with:

• Hat (sun protection)
• Light, breathable clothing
• Running shoes or closed-toe footwear

Other Considerations

• Apply sunscreen before school; consider sending extra for reapplication
• Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day
• Recess, lunch, and KM Club continue outdoors in most weather conditions

Hockey at Recess/Lunch Play Periods

In the past, students have used the school’s floor hockey equipment to play outside during recess and lunch. Unfortunately, this equipment is not designed for outdoor use, and we have been replacing broken sticks far too often. The ongoing cost has become unsustainable, so the school will no longer be able to replace damaged floor hockey sticks.

Moving forward, students who wish to play hockey on their assigned day are welcome to bring their own hockey stick from home. Students will need to work with their classroom teacher to determine an appropriate place to store personal sticks when they are not in use. Please note that the school cannot take responsibility for lost or broken personal hockey sticks.

Grade-level hockey days are as follows:

• Mondays - Grade 5
• Tuesdays - Grade 4
• Wednesdays - Grade 3
• Thursdays - Grade 5
• Fridays - Grade 4

Safety on School Grounds – Watch Where You’re Running!

As a school community, we want to ensure that all students feel safe and cared for before, during, and after school. Throughout the day, we are encouraging students to be mindful of one another by walking in the hallways, moving safely around the school grounds, and taking a moment to look around before heading off to where they’re going. Recently, we’ve had a few collisions when students were moving too quickly, and we want to prevent any further injuries.

We kindly ask families to remind their children to move carefully on school property, especially during busy drop‑off and pick‑up times, and to watch out for younger and smaller peers. Your support helps keep our school a safe place for everyone.

Reminder: Toys and Valuables at School

We kindly ask families to ensure that students do not bring toys or valuable personal items to school. These items often lead to conflict between students, feelings of jealousy, and unnecessary distractions during learning time.

Additionally, the school cannot take responsibility for any personal belongings that are brought from home and become lost, damaged, or misplaced. To help keep our school environment positive, focused, and safe for all learners, we strongly recommend that these items remain at home.

Dogs on School Grounds

We enjoy seeing families out with their pets, but we want to remind everyone that not all members of our school community feel comfortable around dogs. To help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and families, please keep the following in mind:

• If you choose to bring your dog during drop-off or pick-up, you are responsible for your dog’s behaviour at all times.
• Dogs must be leashed at all times while on school property.
• Any dog that has shown physical aggression is not permitted on school grounds and should be left at home.

Our priority is that every student and community member feels safe and at ease. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration.

Nut Aware

We have quite a few students at Langley Fundamental Elementary who are allergic to peanuts or tree nuts. We are working to become a Nut Aware school in order to keep students safe.  Your child’s classroom teacher will let you know if it’s inadvisable to send nuts of any type (including peanut butter) to school for lunches.
