March 2026 Newsletter

Message from Administration

As we move into March, we want to extend our warmest wishes to all families in our community observing Ramadan and Lent, as well as those who recently celebrated Lunar New Year. We were proud to honour and learn from Black History Month throughout February, and we look forward to continuing to build an inclusive and welcoming school environment for all. This month, we also wish the very best to those in our community celebrating Eid or Holi. March is also the month where we observe International Women's Day on the 8th and St. Patrick's Day on the 17th. Thank you to all families for participating in our Student Inclusive Conferences - your partnership makes a meaningful difference in our students’ growth. As Spring Break approaches, we wish our staff, students, and families a restful and refreshing holiday!

At Langley Fundamental Elementary, we are excited to introduce our community to the TITAN Traits, a shared framework we’ve been developing in partnership with LFMSS. Over the past several months, both schools have been working closely to align our philosophies, expectations, and language so that students experience a consistent and supportive approach as they move through their K–12 journey. The TITAN Traits, adapted at the elementary level to be age‑appropriate and meaningful, reflect the values and behaviours that help our students learn, grow, and thrive. By embracing these common traits across both campuses, we strengthen our identity as one connected community, united in our commitment to developing capable, caring, and confident learners.

Grade 5 Young Entrepreneurs Fair – A Huge Success!

A big shout‑out to our incredible Grade 5 students for their hard work and creativity at Thursday’s Young Entrepreneurs Fair on February 26th. Each student did an amazing job developing business plans, crafting products, and showcasing their entrepreneurial spirit to our community.

Thank you to our dedicated Grade 5 teaching team and SEA’s for guiding and supporting students throughout the process. And a heartfelt thank‑you to our entire school community for coming out, cheering them on, and supporting their work. What a fantastic celebration of learning, innovation, and teamwork!

Diversity & Respect Week Wrap‑Up

From Feb 23 - 27, our school community came together to celebrate Diversity and Respect Week, a wonderful reminder of the values that make LFES such a vibrant and caring place for students to learn and grow. We began the week with a positive and engaging schoolwide assembly, where Mr. Olson, Ms. Daem, Ms. Myers, and our Grade 4 and 5 students presented creative skits highlighting our TITAN Traits. Their thoughtful performances helped set the tone for a week centred on kindness, inclusion, and shared understanding.

Throughout the week, students participated in a series of themed dress‑up days. From celebrating personal cultural heritage, to showing support for anti‑bullying initiatives, to honouring Indigenous peoples, to ending the week with a burst of red and white for Canada Day - the enthusiasm and school spirit were incredible to see. Classrooms and hallways were filled with meaningful conversations and colourful displays that reflected the diversity of our school community.

Thank you to all families for your support and participation. Your engagement helps make Diversity and Respect Week a meaningful experience for our students each year.

Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year began on February 17, 2026, marking the start of the Year of the Fire Horse.  Families celebrate with bright decoration, special foods, and traditions that welcome good luck for the new year.

Lent

Lent is an important season of reflection, prayer, and renewal for many Christians around the world. This year, Lent begins on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, and continues until Thursday, April 2, 2026. During this time, many Christian families take part in prayer, acts of kindness, and forms of fasting as they prepare for Easter.

At the end of Lent comes the joyful celebration of Easter Sunday on April 5, 2026. Easter is a festive time when families gather, share meals, and celebrate hope, renewal, and new life.

We wish all students and families observing Lent and celebrating Easter a peaceful, happy, and meaningful season!

Ramadan

Ramadan is an important month of fasting, kindness, and reflection for Muslims around the world. This year, Ramadan is expected to begin on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and continue until Thursday, March 19, 2026, depending on the sighting of the moon. During this special month, many Muslim families take part in daily prayer, acts of generosity, and fasting from sunrise to sunset.

At the end of Ramadan comes a joyful celebration called Eid al‑Fitr, expected to take place on March 19 & 20, 2026. Eid is a festive holiday when families gather, share meals, give gifts, and celebrate the end of the month‑long fast.

We wish all students and families observing Ramadan and celebrating Eid a peaceful, happy, and meaningful time!

Safety on School Grounds – Watch Where You’re Running!

As a school community, we want to ensure that all students feel safe and cared for before, during, and after school. Throughout the day, we are encouraging students to be mindful of one another by walking in the hallways, moving safely around the school grounds, and taking a moment to look around before heading off to where they’re going. Recently, we’ve had a few collisions when students were moving too quickly, and we want to prevent any further injuries.

We kindly ask families to remind their children to move carefully on school property, especially during busy drop‑off and pick‑up times, and to watch out for younger and smaller peers. Your support helps keep our school a safe place for everyone.

Reminder: Toys and Valuables at School

We kindly ask families to ensure that students do not bring toys or valuable personal items to school. These items often lead to conflict between students, feelings of jealousy, and unnecessary distractions during learning time.

Additionally, the school cannot take responsibility for any personal belongings that are brought from home and become lost, damaged, or misplaced. To help keep our school environment positive, focused, and safe for all learners, we strongly recommend that these items remain at home.

Thank you for your support in helping all students have a great day at school!

Student Learning Survey 2025/2026

The Provincial Student Learning Survey is unique in its scope, size and usefulness to schools. It gathers information from parents/guardians/caregivers, teachers, and students on topics related to school environment, safety, and achievement. The information is used for planning in individual schools and provides a district and provincial perspective.

Early in 2026 the Student Learning Survey will be administered to students in grade 4, their parents/guardians/caregivers, and all school staff. We encourage parents/guardians/caregivers to participate in this survey, as the results are important in identifying and celebrating current strengths, as well as determining where the school needs to focus improvement. The surveys contain standard questions for the Province – in addition, questions from the school and/or district that focus on local conditions or issues may be included.

The survey can be completed electronically and can be accessed on the Internet at https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/student-learning-survey. Any computer or mobile device with an Internet connection can be used, and access to the e-survey is simple and secure. The survey can be accessed through the link and by clicking on Take the Survey. On the login page, click on the Parents icon, and then select the school district and school name where your child attends school. Provincial, District and School Reports for previous years can be viewed at the same site under the Results section.

The e-survey site will be open until May 1, 2026.

If you have any questions, please contact the school at 604-530-9973.
