Message from Administration
June has arrived, and with it comes one of the busiest and most exciting times in our school year. Our calendar is full with field trips, year-end activities, and opportunities to celebrate the learning and growth that has taken place over the past months. Classrooms are buzzing as students wrap up projects and take part in these memorable experiences together.
We also want to recognize the incredible PAC Fun Night and our school’s 50th Anniversary celebration held on Friday, May 29th. It was wonderful to see so many families and community members out enjoying the sunshine together. The evening was filled with music, delicious food, games, and, most importantly, meaningful connections. Events like this truly highlight the strength and spirit of our school community. A heartfelt thank you goes out to our PAC for their tireless work and dedication in bringing this amazing event to life.
Thank you to our staff, students, and families for your continued support and energy: it truly makes this time of year so special. Your partnership helps create the strong sense of community we value at our school.
As we move through these final weeks, we look forward to enjoying all that June brings and finishing the year on a positive and memorable note. Wishing everyone a wonderful start to the final stretch of the school year.

Sports Day Information
Our annual Sports Day is quickly approaching! Sports Day will be held on Friday, June 12 and we are looking for parent volunteers to help the day run smoothly.
We need a minimum of 4 parent volunteers per class to help run a station. Responsibilities include teaching the game/activity to each group, setting-up and resetting the equipment for your activity, helping to direct students, and equipment take-down (before lunch). Teachers will also be present to help direct and manage their own students. Please note: parent volunteers will not be following their child’s class around to the other stations, but they will stay at their assigned station. Stations will be done in two shifts: 2 volunteers are needed from 9:00am - 10:30am and 2 volunteers from 10:15am - 11:45am. If this is something that interests you, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
Lastly, we are looking for one or two volunteers to provide a Rice Krispie Square snack for each child in your child’s class for recess. If this interests you, please let your classroom parent know.
Thank you so much for your help! We are really looking forward to it!!

Cops for Cancer Fundraiser
Our school community is proud to host another Cops for Cancer fundraiser for the month of September in support of our very own Honorary Member, Everly Vaartstra.
Everly was diagnosed with melanoma in 2024, underwent scans, tests and surgeries but is now doing well. Grateful for the support they received, the family is excited to fundraise with the school for this cause.
Since 1997, Cops for Cancer has raised $58million to support pediatric cancer research and Camp Goodtimes.
- Camp Goodtimes is a medically assisted camp for families in BC with a child on a cancer journey
- First Responders ride 100km each day for 6 days in September to raise awareness and funds
- Mr. Durnin, Tour de Valley riders and Langley RCMP Members have agreed to a celebratory pie in the face assembly again when we reach our fundraising goal of $2300.
Get started this summer with lemonade stand fundraising! The class with the most cash donations will win a special prize!
Online donations accepted Here. Cash donations accepted in September.

New Shade Sail Installation - Beginning June 1
We are excited to share some wonderful news! Thanks to a very generous donation from our Parent Advisory Council (PAC), shade sails will soon be installed over our outdoor classroom area, located between the primary playground and the Grade 2 soccer field.
These shade sails will provide much-needed sun protection for our students, whether they are enjoying play periods or engaging in outdoor learning. We are incredibly grateful to our PAC for this thoughtful and impactful gift that supports student well-being and learning.
Installation will begin Monday, June 1, starting with the installation of the posts. We anticipate that there will be some construction equipment on site beginning Monday, with work continuing over the following weeks until the sails are installed and the area is ready to reopen.
During this time, the area will be roped off, and students and staff will be reminded to stay clear of the construction zone during school hours. The construction company has been provided with our bell schedule and will do their best to avoid working during times when students are outside.
We also ask that families who enjoy spending time on the school grounds before and after school please be mindful of the construction activity and associated equipment, and help ensure children remain at a safe distance. Safety is our top priority.
Thank you again to our PAC for their generosity, and to our community for your patience and cooperation as we complete this exciting improvement to our school grounds.

Lost and Found Donated at the End of the School Year

The lost and found will be donated June 25th so please check your closets for any lost items before it is too late!
Dress for the Weather
Students should come prepared for outdoor activities with:
- Hat (sun protection)
- Light, breathable clothing
- Running shoes or closed-toe footwear
Other Considerations
- Apply sunscreen before school; consider sending extra for reapplication
- Bring a water bottle to stay hydrated throughout the day
- Recess, lunch, and KM Club continue outdoors in most weather conditions
Thank you for helping students stay cool, safe, and ready to learn!
Hockey at Recess/Lunch Play Periods
In the past, students have used the school’s floor hockey equipment to play outside during recess and lunch. Unfortunately, this equipment is not designed for outdoor use, and we have been replacing broken sticks far too often. The ongoing cost has become unsustainable, so the school will no longer be able to replace damaged floor hockey sticks.
Moving forward, students who wish to play hockey on their assigned day are welcome to bring their own hockey stick from home. Students will need to work with their classroom teacher to determine an appropriate place to store personal sticks when they are not in use. Please note that the school cannot take responsibility for lost or broken personal hockey sticks.
Grade-level hockey days are as follows:
- Mondays - Grade 5
- Tuesdays - Grade 4
- Wednesdays - Grade 3
- Thursdays - Grade 5
- Fridays - Grade 4
Safety on School Grounds – Watch Where You’re Running!
As a school community, we want to ensure that all students feel safe and cared for before, during, and after school. Throughout the day, we are encouraging students to be mindful of one another by walking in the hallways, moving safely around the school grounds, and taking a moment to look around before heading off to where they’re going. Recently, we’ve had a few collisions when students were moving too quickly, and we want to prevent any further injuries.
We kindly ask families to remind their children to move carefully on school property, especially during busy drop‑off and pick‑up times, and to watch out for younger and smaller peers. Your support helps keep our school a safe place for everyone.
Reminder: Toys and Valuables at School
We kindly ask families to ensure that students do not bring toys or valuable personal items to school. These items often lead to conflict between students, feelings of jealousy, and unnecessary distractions during learning time.
Additionally, the school cannot take responsibility for any personal belongings that are brought from home and become lost, damaged, or misplaced. To help keep our school environment positive, focused, and safe for all learners, we strongly recommend that these items remain at home.
Thank you for your support in helping all students have a great day at school!
Class Placement Requests for Teachers and Friends
As we approach the end of the school year and begin planning for September, we know many families are thinking ahead about class placements for the coming year.
We truly value the trust and involvement of our LFES families, and we recognize that parents know their children best. Creating class groupings, however, is a thoughtful and complex process that takes many factors into account, including learning needs, social dynamics, instructional balance, and overall class composition. For this reason, we are not able to accommodate requests for specific teachers.
Similarly, while we understand how important friendships and connections are for students, we are also unable to guarantee placement requests for specific friends. This decision is not a reflection of a lack of care for student relationships. Rather, it allows us to create balanced classrooms and support students in developing flexibility, resilience, and new social connections. Our experience shows that students often grow in wonderful ways when they have opportunities to form new friendships, while still maintaining existing ones throughout the school community.
Our staff works collaboratively and with great care to ensure every student is placed in an environment where they can thrive. We have tremendous confidence in our entire teaching team and are proud of the professionalism, dedication, and care they bring to their classrooms each day. We are confident that all students will be well supported, regardless of class placement.
Thank you for your understanding and continued partnership as we make these decisions with the well‑being of all students in mind. Our shared goal is to provide the best possible learning experience for every child at LFES.
Dogs on School Grounds
We enjoy seeing families out with their pets, but we want to remind everyone that not all members of our school community feel comfortable around dogs. To help ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all students, staff, and families, please keep the following in mind:
- If you choose to bring your dog during drop-off or pick-up, you are responsible for your dog’s behaviour at all times.
- Dogs must be leashed at all times while on school property.
- Any dog that has shown physical aggression is not permitted on school grounds and should be left at home.
Our priority is that every student and community member feels safe and at ease. Thank you for your cooperation and consideration.

The Gift Shoppe
Our annual Gift Shoppe is running from June 15-17th in the music portable.
If this is your first year at Fundy, we run a Gift Shoppe the weeks before Mother's Day and Father's Day for the kids to shop for their moms, dads, grandparents, caregivers, etc. Kindergarten and Grade 1's will have a time to shop with their classes, while Grades 2-5 are welcome to come before school, lunch time and after school. All items will be priced between $1-$8 to keep it affordable for the kids.
In order to run the shoppe successfully, we require lots of volunteers to help the kids with their purchases. Please click the link below to sign up for a time to help, thank you!
School Supply Donations
As the school year comes to an end, I am reaching out to ask if you would consider donating any gently used or unused school supplies that may no longer be needed, to families facing financial hardship.
Items such as notebooks, pencils, crayons, markers, highlighters, calculators, and other classroom materials as well as backpacks (in very good condition) can help ensure that students start the new school year prepared and confident.
If you are interested in participating, please drop off donations in the foyer of our school June 22-25. Or contact your teacher to let them know you would like to donate your child’s unused supplies.
Thank you for considering this opportunity to support local families and students!
Grade 5 Camp Recap
Grade 5 Stillwood
The Grade 5s had an unforgettable day at Camp Stillwood! Throughout the day, students faced fears, stepped outside their comfort zones, and created lasting memories with friends and classmates. From soaring through the sky on the zipline to scaling towering rock walls, everyone was encouraged to challenge themselves and try something new. The students tried archery and forest laser tag, both of which proved to be more challenging than they sounded. Despite the occasional encounter with stinging nettles, these activities were a lot of fun. Many students expressed the highlight of the trip was the high ropes course, featuring many exciting obstacles suspended high in the trees. Overall, it was the perfect way to celebrate the end of our elementary school years together and mark this special milestone as a group.

Keeping Kids Healthy and Safe this Summer – Tips for Parents
Summer is a time for fun and relaxation. Below are some tips to help your kids stay active, healthy and safe during the summer months.
Sun Protection
Help avoid sunburns by applying a sunscreen with Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or more at least 20 minutes before heading outside. Avoid the hot sun between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. if you can. Seek places with lots of shade, such as parks with big trees. Take an umbrella to the beach and cover up with sunglasses that protect against UV rays, a wide brimmed hat, long sleeves and loose-fitting long pants.
Heat and Smoke Preparedness
With increased likelihood of hot temperatures, remember to keep children cool inside and outside. Watch the media for heat and smoke events. The WeatherCAN app can help.
Sustained indoor temperatures over 31°C can be unsafe. If there is no source of cool air, don’t rely on fans alone during very hot weather. Relocate to a cool, shady outdoor space, or head to a library, mall or community cooling centre. Make sure you and your family know the signs and symptoms of heat illness and how to get help. Learn more on the Sun and heat safety page.
Summer can also bring smoke from wildfires. Learn about the health impacts of smoke and change outdoor plans if needed. Find out how to be ready for smoke and know about the air quality in your community at Fraser Heath’s Wildfire smoke page and in this postcard.
Eat Well, Stay Active and Hydrate
Encourage your children to drink water regularly. Build the habit of always carrying a water bottle with them wherever they go.
Healthy, active outdoor play is one of the best ways to improve physical and mental health. If your children are involved in sports, learn about heat precautions that can be taken during practice. If your children love the water check out these tips on water safety.
Local farmers’ markets and u-pick farms are fun outdoor activities where you can enjoy seasonal produce. Did you know that over half of the blueberries harvested in B.C. are sold frozen in your local grocery store? Enjoy these nutrient-dense berries as fresh or frozen, with yogurts and in smoothies.
