A program that provides graduation credits to paid apprentices for completing work-based training hours.
Employer Benefits
- Earn tax credits of up to 20% of the apprentice's annual salary
- Train workers from the start their careers
- Give back to and invest in the local community
- Helping students learn a trade while earning credits towards high school graduation
Employer Responsibilities
- Have an experienced supervising tradesperson oversee the apprentice
- Maintain active WorkSafe BC coverage for employees
- Understand the apprenticeship process
- Complete required documents
- Providing meaningful paid work experience
- Submit work-based training Hours Reports to SkilledTradesBC
Student Benefits
- Earn while they learn
- Get a head start on their career while attending secondary school
- Potential to work full time for a semester
- Earn credits for completing work-based training hours

- May be eligible to receive $1000 Youth Work in Trades Scholarship

Documents to register a youth apprentice complete:
- A Work Site Analysis is completed by Langley School District staff when visiting a new employer to assess workplace safety.
- SkilledTradesBC – Registration – Youth Work in Trades (Youth Apprentice) – SAMPLE
- SkilledTradesBC – Program Profile and Program Outline – Select the appropriate trade to find these documents. Describes the apprenticeship process for each trade
Documents to help employers:
- SkilledTradesBC Portal – for employers to report completed hours from a signed apprentice
- WorkSafe BC – Support for employers: Training and orientation for young and new workers
- WorkSafe BC – Bullying and Harassment Policy – all employers in BC must have a policy.
