Work And Volunteer Experience (WAVE)

What is WAVE?

Work And Volunteer Experience (WAVE) is an elective course that students complete outside of school hours at an employer’s organization. Students work, volunteer or job shadow in an entry-level capacity. WAVE students will earn credits and gain experience in the industry of their choice.

Student Benefits

  • Complete up to two courses outside of school in an area of interest
  • Gain work or volunteer experience in almost any industry/occupation
  • Work with a new employer or continue where the student is already working/volunteering
  • Have a smoother transition from school to work
  • Complete WAVE on weekends, evenings, school holidays and breaks
  • Learn job search strategies with the support of a WAVE teacher and Career Advisor
  • Earn up to eight credits for learning outside the classroom

Student Requirements

  • Be in grade 10-12
  • Have parent/guardian permission
  • Be prepared to work/volunteer 80+ hours
  • Complete WAVE Student Guides
  • Readiness to be in the workplace
