 We post lots of events, teacher tips, UDL strategies, and more!

Interested in Becoming a Mentor? We have many brand-new or early career teachers looking for a mentor. We need mentors at all grade levels but especially primary (1-3), middle (6-7), and Resource. We are looking for experienced teachers with five or more years in the profession to support and guide newer educators as they transition into their roles. Please fill out the Mentor Information Sheet here. Once completed, please email it to teachermentorship@sd35.bc.ca to join our program!

New to the District or a New Role? If you’re a newer teacher looking for mentorship, please fill out the Mentee Information Sheet here. Once completed, please email it to teachermentorship@sd35.bc.ca to join our program! 

Time Commitment: Mentors and Mentees need to commit to ONE 45-minute learning-focused conversation every 3-5 weeks. There are optional workshops, networking and learning sessions available, as well as many perks such as the Mentorship Retreat, giveaways, and resources.

Mentorship Kits: Join the Mentorship Program to borrow Classroom Library Kits to borrow for the school year to help build a library for your students to borrow books and increase the love of literacy.  Currently available at K-2 and 6-8 grade levels. Email us with your request.

This will be held on Tuesday, November 18th,  at the SBO, in the  Learning Hub from 4-5:30pm. Come in with your mentor/mentee partner and have time and space to work together.  Those who could not attend Squamish will receive books and resources provided during the retreat.  

HONOURING TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION

Reconciliation Through Indigenous Education | UBC | More info
Educators can immerse themselves in the University of British Columbia’s (UBC) free six-week, self-paced, online course “Reconciliation Through Indigenous Education,” designed to deepen understanding of Indigenous histories, perspectives, and worldviews. Running until Nov. 4, 2025, the program encourages participants to re-examine assumptions, strengthen relationships, and envision practices that create inclusive and equitable learning environments. System education leaders will gain insight into approaches that respond to current reforms, while learning alongside Indigenous Elders, educational leaders, and culturally grounded resources. They will also explore strategies that enhance classroom practice, community engagement, and institutional policies in ways that honour reconciliation. An optional certificate of completion is available, adding recognition to this professional learning journey. 

4 Seasons of Reconciliation | UBC | More info
Learning journeys often begin with a single step, and “4 Seasons of Reconciliation” offers system education leaders that step through a free, accessible e-learning program created by the First Nations University of Canada and Reconciliation Education. Available in English or French, the course provides three hours of flexible learning on residential schools, Indigenous relations, economic reconciliation, and the future of reconciliation. Participants may complete modules in any order and will receive a certificate upon finishing all modules and a final quiz. By engaging with this resource, participants can deepen their understanding of truth and reconciliation and strengthen the relationships that shape learning communities across Canada.

The session will offer time and support from district IS teachers to help teachers in creating their Term 1 Student Inclusive Conference templates.

As contemporary educators, we have a responsibility to share diverse stories and varied perspectives with our students.
To do so, it’s integral that we first listen to and learn from those voices ourselves. Join us as we learn from these diverse Canadian authors!
Join us for a virtual session with Indigenous author & playwright, Kim Senklip Harvey as she discusses her award-winning play, Kamloopa: An Indigenous Matriarch Story. The play tells the story of three Indigenous women on their journey to reclaim Indigenous matriarchal power.

Skills Canada BC Provincial Competition | April 15, 2026 | Highlights Video Register  | Bus Subsidy
The Abbotsford Tradex is hosting the Skills Canada BC Provincial Trades & Technology competition on April 15, 2026! Watch 500+ competitors compete in 50+ leading trade and technology competitions including electrical, culinary, plumbing, hairstyling, robotics, carpentry, animation and much more! Event admission is free and open to the public, individual registration is not required, however free class registration is highly encouraged! If you are bringing a school bus with student spectators, the 2026 spectator bus subsidy is now open and applications can be submitted at the link above. If you are bringing students, but not requiring the subsidy, register your class, for free at the link above.

Celebrate History Week with Resources from Curio
Curio is a Canadian resource full of excellent videos and lesson plans that are free to access for all teachers in the Langley School District.  As we head into November, in the season of remembering and acknowledging history, Curio is highlighting a number of excellent resources to spark student's curiosity and to help them not only question but also critique both history and their current world.
Below are just two examples of the great resources available for teachers through Curio:
  • Indigenous Veterans | History | Secondary Documentary for Remembrance Day
    Indigenous veterans risked everything going to war for Canada. Though they found a brotherhood in the military, they returned home to broken promises. Watch this moving doc for Remembrance Day.

  • In Flanders Fields Poem | One Poem Many Voices Resource
    Millions of people have heard the famous Canadian war poem In Flanders Fields at Remembrance Day ceremonies around the world. Did you know that this year is its 110th anniversary? Help your students experience the poem in new ways using our multilingual One poem, many voices resources. We have worked with our partners to translate In Flanders Fields into more than 25 of the most spoken languages and dialects in Canada, including Chinese, Punjabi, Arabic and many First Nations, Métis and Inuit languages. Written translations are currently available and over the coming weeks we’ll continue to add new video and audio elements.
Free Physical Activity and Physical Literacy Resources | Learning in Motion | PLAYBuilder
The Learning in Motion Program website hosts free classroom resources that align with the B.C. Physical and Health Education Curriculum. Educators can view, download, and print materials such as posters, activity sheets, assessment tools. 
The PLAYBuilder tool is a digital platform that provides educators with 1600+ activities/games and videos, 150+ lesson plans and a term planning tool for Grades K- 7. 

NOVA & The Whispering Woods Video Story and Worksheet | FORED BC Society | Video | Worksheet
This inspiring story profiles a young girl named Nov, who loves exploring the Whispering Woods. She notices they look a little sad. Enter Grove, the wise forest guardian! Nova learns that keeping the woods healthy is a team effort. Grove explains they carefully harvest some trees to prevent big wildfires and get wood for their homes. What secret does she learn? National Forest Week Contest | FORED BC Society | Deadline: November 21, 2025 | More info
The theme for this year's National Forest Week Contest is "Roots of Resilience: From Seed to Canopy". We are an educational charity and hold this art, photography and video contest every year for Canadian youth aged 5-18. There will be multiple $150 cash prizes awarded and the entry is a simple two-minute form.
