Important Information

Please note the following expectations for our music ensembles:

· Concert Band and Jazz Band are year-long graded courses. Because these are team-based activities, regular attendance and active participation are required.

· Students are expected to make a full-year commitment to their ensemble.

Grade 6 Concert Band

Who can join: All Grade 6 students interested in learning and performing on a wind, brass, or percussion instrument. Students with previous musical experience are also welcome!

Grade 6 students who choose to participate will have Band on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Block 3.

First rehearsal: Tuesday, September 22

Grade 7 Concert Band

Who can join: Grade 7 students who are interested in continuing from Grade 6 Band.

Grade 7 students who are new to band may also be able to join if space is available. However, since most students in the group will have at least one year of experience, new students will need to be prepared to work hard to catch up.

If your Grade 7 child is new to band and is interested in joining, please email me directly at ejoo@sd35.bc.ca.

Grade 7 Band will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Block 4.

There will be a brief meeting in the band room during lunch recess on Tuesday, September 15, where students can sign up for this year.

First rehearsal: Tuesday, September 22

Grade 8 Concert Band

Who can join: Grade 8 students who are interested in continuing from Grade 7 Band.

Grade 8 students who are new to band may also be able to join if space is available. However, since most students in the group will have at least two years of experience, new

students will need to be prepared to work hard to catch up.

If your Grade 8 child is new to band and is interested in joining, please email me directly at ejoo@sd35.bc.ca

Grade 8 Band will meet on Tuesdays and Thursdays during Block 2.

There will be a brief meeting in the band room during lunch recess on Thursday, September 17, where students can sign up for this year.

First rehearsal: Tuesday, September 22

Jazz Band

Who can join: Grade 7 and 8 students, as well as Grade 6 students who have previous experience on their instrument.

No previous jazz experience is necessary! Students interested in Jazz Band must also be enrolled in one of the Concert Band courses. Jazz Band meets once a week outside of the timetable.
