Families of Shortreed,

We hope your child had a wonderful first week in their new 2026–2027 classroom and has had lots of opportunities to connect with their new classmates and teachers. It has been so lovely to see so many smiling faces on the playground and to feel the excitement and energy around the school as everyone settles into the new school year.

Our Kindergarten students have also been busy learning new routines and gradually building up their time at school. A big thank you to our Kindergarten families and staff for working together to help our youngest students make this transition in a positive and supportive way. We are so excited to have them with us for the full day!

Our first PAC meeting of the year is coming up! Please join us on Tuesday, September 22 at 6:30 p.m. in the Shortreed Library. Our PAC is an important part of the Shortreed community, helping to build connections between families and the school and supporting opportunities and experiences for our students. Every Shortreed parent and caregiver is a member of our PAC, and everyone is welcome to attend meetings, share ideas, ask questions, and learn more about what is happening in our school community. Whether you have been involved with PAC for years or are simply curious about what it’s all about, we would love to see you on Tuesday. 

A couple of quick reminders for this week at Shortreed! Our Back to School BBQ and Meet the Teacher takes place on Thursday. The BBQ will run from 5:00–6:00 p.m., followed by Meet the Teacher from 6:00–7:00 p.m. We are looking forward to welcoming our families and spending some time together! Our Breakfast Program also begins this Monday. If your child is planning on attending, please take a moment to complete this form so we know how many students to expect and can plan for any food allergies or dietary needs.

Parent Consent Request

Each year, Langley Schools asks families to complete a set of parent consent forms for their child. These consent forms are required by our schools to ensure the health, safety, and security of all students. Langley Schools uses a secure web form to collect this information. Beginning mid-September, please watch for an email request (subject Parent Consent Request) that contains one link for you to submit consents for all children in your family attending any Langley School. If your email address or contact information has changed, please call your school to correct it in our files. If you have not received an email regarding Parent Consent Request by the end of the month or have any questions/concerns, please contact your school administrator.

Transportation: My Ride K-12 App

Beginning in the 2026-2027 school year, the Langley School District’s Transportation service will be using the My Ride K-12 (app or website) to share up-to-date bus rider information with parents/guardians and students. The application allows parents/guardians and students to view assigned bus stops and pick-up/drop-off times and receive notifications about bus delays or route changes. To access your child’s bus rider information, sign-up and login to the My Ride K-12 app by following instructions found on the District website here.

Safer Schools Together Parent Information Sessions

Safer Schools Together is once again providing Family Information Sessions on a variety of topics. These are good opportunities for parents and guardians to increase their knowledge on the evolving world of digital citizenship, social media, AI, etc. Sessions are recommended for those in care of children aged 10 & up.

The first two sessions available are titled:

· Establishing Safe, Caring, and Respectful Digital Communities

· Establishing Family Practices for Safeguarding Against Cyberbullying and Sextortion
