Principal’s Message
Welcome to Shortreed Community School!
It is an absolute privilege to begin this school year as the Principal of Shortreed. Having been part of the Shortreed community, I already know what makes this school so special: the people. Our students, staff and families bring a tremendous sense of heart, energy and care to our school each day.
The Langley School District’s mission is “to inspire all learners to reach their full potential and create a positive legacy for the future.” At Shortreed, we bring this mission to life through our simple but meaningful motto:
You Belong Here.
Belonging is where learning begins. We want every student to feel known, valued and supported, and to know that their ideas, strengths and contributions matter. Our focus on being a peaceful school is an important part of who we are. We work hard to build strong relationships, support students' social and emotional well-being, and create a school where children feel safe, connected and ready to learn.
At the same time, we have high hopes for every learner. This year, we will continue to strengthen literacy and numeracy, with a particular focus on building strong reading foundations, developing confident writers, and helping students become strong mathematical thinkers and problem-solvers.
We believe belonging and achievement go hand in hand. When children feel safe, connected and confident, they are more willing to take risks, learn from mistakes, persevere through challenges and discover their own strengths and potential.
I am looking forward to working alongside our students, staff and families as we continue to make Shortreed a place where children belong, learn and grow.
