As the school year comes to a close and we look ahead to summer, it is a wonderful time to look back on the many moments that made this year memorable – from events and inspiring stories to achievements big and small across our District. In this end-of-school year edition of the Community Spotlight, we are sharing a few of the highlights and accomplishments of the past few months. We wish everyone a relaxing, fun-filled summer break – enjoy spending time with your family, make memories, and stay safe.

District and Board of Education Updates 

budget-icon-square.7e88da23135.jpgEarlier this spring, the Langley School District conducted its annual Budget Consultation process for the 2026-2027 school year, asking students, staff, and families for their input. You can read more about the results of that process here. 


catchments.5b3f3f23136.jpgIn May, the District shared an update on the Willoughby Slope Catchment Boundaries. This comes ahead of the opening of a new middle and secondary school in September 2027. More information on the new boundaries can be found here. 


remss.be85a123137.jpgA new classroom addition at R.E. Mountain Secondary was announced in April and will provide 300 new seats for secondary students on the Willoughby Slope. Read details here.

idea-summit-06.cf9cae23139.jpgThe entrepreneurial spirit was alive and well at this year’s I.D.E.A. Summit, as elementary and middle school students marketed and sold their creations, and also got the chance to pitch to local business leaders. Read more here 



thinking-thursday.18669223140.jpgIn an effort to engage students and find unique ways to teach numeracy, Brookswood Secondary teachers and staff created Thinking Thursdays, a weekly program meant to challenge students with brain teasers, puzzles, and more. Check it out and watch a video here. 



aboriginal-awards.37a42d23141.jpgLast month, the District celebrated Indigenous student award winners and graduates – also known as ‘Golden Eagles’ – at the annual Aboriginal Achievement Awards, which were held in May. Learn more about the success of our students here. 



josette-dandurand-opening.e430bf23142.jpgIn May, the District’s newest school, Josette Dandurand Elementary, held a celebration to mark the school’s opening and highlight the incredible sense of community that has been built there in such a short time. For a recap of the event read here.

As part of National AccessAbility Week, we caught up with staff who help make the District more inclusive. To explore ongoing projects, review here. 



idea-x.5dcfac23144.jpgThis year’s IDEA X Challenge brought teams of secondary students together to design Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions, with $10,000 in scholarship funds up for grabs. Read all about the winning team and their project here.
