Happy Mother's Day

To all of the Bears moms, grandmothers, aunties, and any other important motherly people who keep our community strong, we wish you the happiest of Mother's Days.

Bandits Game

Last Thursday, our grade 3-5 students and teachers went to the Vancouver Bandits school day game. It was bonkers in the Langley Events Center arena as the Bandits faced the University All Stars. Our kids had a blast, and were, with no exaggeration, the best-behaved kids in the place, and that's with students from 9 surrounding districts and many schools. I was so proud of how they represented our school.

timəθət ct ceʔ Cup

We are excited to share that we will be hosting our 1st Annual timəθət ct ceʔ Cup this spring — a meaningful and fun soccer game between Josette Dandurand Elementary School and Donna Gabriel Robins Elementary School.
The name timəθət ct ceʔ means “to try one’s best,” and this event is rooted in that spirit — bringing together students and staff through sport, community, and reconciliation-based learning.
Event Details:
    • Date: Thursday, May 14
    • Location: Josette Dandurand Park
    • Participants: Grade 5 students
Our students and Mr. U have been training hard, and are ready to show the Donna Gabriel Robins Owls how we play Bears soccer! It's going to be outstanding! We are thankful to Mr. U and to Luke Dandurand, the Aboriginal Support Worker at Yorkson Creek and Peter Ewart Middle Schools, for offering our students this fun, inspiring opportunity.

We're Gaga For Safety

You may have heard about our new Ga Ga Ball pit. Maybe you've even seen it or been brave enough to try it out. Kids are certainly excited, though there have been some scraped-up knuckles as a result of that excitement. We would ask you, parents, for one favour. Please remind your kids at home, too, that sitting along the Ga Ga Wall is a no-no. We don't want to see kids falling, and there's so much action in the game, that's a possibility if they're sitting on the wall.

Lockdown Drill

On Monday, we will be conducting a Lockdown Drill after recess. If you come in during the drill, the school should appear deserted; please be patient and Ms. Davies will assist you as soon as she is allowed. If your child has questions about the Lockdown Drill, please reassure them that this is just a practice, and our goal is to be invisible and silent, so Mr. Oliver thinks it's a Sunday in the school.

Kindergarten Welcome

Every year, we welcome the incoming Kindergarten students to a special event. This year, that day will be on the afternoon of June 2. Kindergarten families of this year, please note that your kids will be dismissed at 12:33 that day so we can meet our incoming Kindies. Everyone, please note that the parking lot and driveways are likely to be extra-full that afternoon.

Calendars (repeat)

Future Catchment Changes (repeat)

In case you missed the Friday email from Ms. Davies, please see this letter from Superintendent Mal Gill regarding the catchments for the new middle and secondary schools in this region.

Quote of the Week

Something to Read (or watch)

I was reading about Pitt Lake, just north of us, the other day, and I found some fascinating stuff. Did you now it once had an island prison on it? And that communication between that island and the rest of BC was often by Carrier Pigeon? Or that there is a lost gold mine that is rumored to be cursed? It is a sensational enough story to have been talked about on TV even. Pitt Lake is also one of the world's biggest tidal lakes, and is a great place to spot some pretty neat birds.
