Happy Father's Day

Happy Father's Day to all the Josette Dandurand Elementary dads and supportive men. We appreciate all you do in helping make our students so awesome!

Farewell, Grade 5s

On Monday, we bid goodbye to our first class of grade 5s as they head off to Yorkson Creek and Peter Ewart Middle Schools (well, we say farewell, but they're still ours until Thursday). We are so impressed with and grateful for these grade 5s. They are instant volunteers when we need them, are consistently kind to each other and the rest of the school, and make us proud every day. We thank them for all their volunteerism and for setting such a great example for the rest of our students.

Grade 5 parents, don't forget that you are, of course, invited to the leaving ceremony this Monday (that's tomorrow) at 1:00 pm.

Sports Day is almost here!

NOTE: We have extended participation in the Wheels Parade down to grade 2 students. To participate, students must wear a helmet and should be competent at steering their wheels on a steady path. They have to be able to 'hold their line.'

And based on the weather forecast, please make sure your kids come with lots of water, a good hat, and their sunscreen applied.

June 23 (Tuesday) is our first-ever Sports Day at Josette Dandurand Elementary. We will have a wheels parade at 9:00 am for grades 2-5 where students ride their decorated (or not) bikes or scooters on a parade around the driveways. Please note that the gates will be closed for that event, as we need no cars and all the driveway we can muster up. Also please note that students without properly fitting helmets may not participate in the parade. Younger students will line the driveway and cheer. As this is our first event of this sort, we are being a bit cautious and experimental to see what we can make work.

After the parade, we will have field games for classes. Classroom teachers should have (or will be) sent home colour team assignments. Please note that we will be providing freezies (or half-freezies) to kids as part of this event.

Parents are welcome to come and cheer for the kids! We'd love to see you around the field, though we'd ask you to cheer from the perimeter and leave the center of the field for our classes to move.

June 25 Dismissal

Please note that students will be dismissed for summer at 11:30 am on Thursday, June 25. The office will be open until Friday, July 3.

Block Party!

Big thanks to the team that organized and ran our Block Party on Friday night! What a great community time it was! We loved seeing so many families out, including some whose kids don't even come to the school yet. And when it came time to clean up, everyone was helping! It was great! Thank you for organizing, and thank you, Bears, for attending!

We want to send out a special thanks to the student volunteers from REMSS who came to help us keep everything running smoothly. They did a great job. Thanks, too, to our custodial team who had to empty the outside garbage about 6 times, while keeping up with their usual work. We couldn't have these events without you.

Lost & Found - Last call

On Wednesday, June 24, any useable items left in our Lost & Found will be donated to a 'free store' run by a local church. Please stop in and check the lost and found before that time to see if any of your child's clothing (or bottles, or otherwise) is there. The volunteer team managing the donation will be picking up shortly after 1:00 that day.

Learning Summaries (aka Final Report Cards) are coming this Thursday

Teachers are already hard at work on final learning summaries for our first year at Josette Dandurand Elementary. These will be published to MyEducationBC on June 25, and you will be able to access them through the  MyEdBC parent portal. Given the frantic pace in a school office on the last day of school, now is a good time to make sure you can log into your account.

If you need your account reset, please email jdes@sd35.bc.ca the following information:

    • Student First and Last Name
    • Grade
    • Division
    • Parent First and Last Name
    • Address
    • Phone number
  • Please note that report cards may not be posted until the late afternoon/evening on June 25, 2026. You will receive an email from Mr. Oliver that tells you when they are published. Also, remember they are published one grade at a time, so if you receive one child's report and not their siblings, nothing is wrong. We just haven't made it to the next grade yet.

Something to read

Last Wednesday, Seyem Carlyn and Ms Bouvier led the school in an assembly celebrating National Indigenouse People's Day. At the end of the assembly, students were challenged (a main quest, not a side quest) to share some of what they learned. One part of the assembly was this CBC News Kids short video. We thought we'd share it with you, too.
