Bears' Beat - April 12, 2026
Information
Happy Vaisakhi
This Tuesday is Vaisakhi, a celebration of the spring harvest that originated in northern India. This celebration also has connections to India's independence from British colonialism; recognizes significant events in the Sikh faith; and it marks the beginning of the new year according to the Indian Solar Calendar. Next Saturday, April 18, the Surrey Vaisakhi Parade will bring the celebration very much to life. If you haven't gone, you should sometime. It is awesome!
We wish all members of the Josette Dandurand community who observe a happy Vaisakhi!

🌷Spring Hanging Basket Fundraiser🌷

Thanks from Mr. Oliver!
Thank you to all students, staff and families for the birthday wishes on Friday. They made my day extra-special!
Student Learning Survey from the Ministry of Education (repeat)
We want to hear from you! Please share your thoughts about your child’s learning by completing the BC
Student Learning Survey (SLS). This survey happens every year and helps us make education better for
all students in BC.
Why your opinion matters:
• It’s the only survey that asks parents across BC about their child’s learning.
• Your answers add to what students and staff share, giving a full picture.
• Results help identify areas of concern and guide improvements.
Please complete the survey by May 1, 2026:

Informal Learning Updates (repeat)
During the week of May 4, your child will receive a paper record of the second informal learning update as part of the requirements within the Ministry of Education and Childcare's Reporting Order.
This informal Learning Update serves as a record of communication, which can include (but is not limited to) past email communication, meeting, digital student portfolio or written communication, to serve as an update to families on student learning progress since the Term 2 Formal Learning Update. Parents/Caregivers will be able to see the method of communication indicated at the top of the paper informal Learning Update.
If you have further questions on your child's learning progress, please contact your child's classroom teacher.
Quote of the Week

Something to read (or watch)
It's eagle nesting time! You may have seen some of the local bald eagles near the school. They are busy nest-building and courting, and have put on some pretty impressive flying displays. Over the coming weeks, we should see some activity on some of the region's eagle nest cameras. They can be found at the Hancock Wildlife Foundation's website.
