Dear families of kindergarten students, 

Welcome to the 2025 school year and welcome to Shortreed! If you attended our Kindergarten Welcome event in the spring, you will have received this information, but we also want to make sure we posted it on our site for easy access. To help with the transition into school, all Langley Schools use a gradual entry schedule for the first couple of weeks. This allows time for students to get used to life in kindergarten while also allowing time for our teaching staff to meet with families. 

Please take a look at the schedule below. Please note that there are different groups based on the child's last name. 

On Tuesday, August 26, I will send out a link to an online sign-up for the parent/family meetings. Be sure to check your email and sign up for a time that works for you. As you can see, our kindergarten students do not start until Friday, September 5 at either 9:00 (Group A) or 11:00 (Group B). 

Please note that your child will not be with their permanent teacher until Monday, September 15. We do this so we can provide the best placements for students in supportive, equitable classrooms. 

We will also be sending information about our Kindergarten Playdate - a fun opportunity for families to connect on the Shortreed playground on a weekend in September (the date and time is still to be determined). 

School Supplies for kindergarten students will be $40 and purchased through the school. You do not need to purchase supplies for your child outside of working with the school. If cost is a barrier for you, you can let your child's teacher know.
