Newsletter #4 - September 26

Hello PEMS Families,

As we settle into the school year, we’re excited to share some upcoming events that will bring our school community together and create memorable experiences for our students.

First, we’re proud to be hosting our annual Terry Fox Run to honour the legacy of a true Canadian hero. This event will take place on October 10th during school hours. Students will walk or run a designated route around the school grounds and nearby area to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

Parent-Teacher Interviews are scheduled for October 22nd and 23rd . These meetings are a valuable opportunity to connect with your child’s teachers, discuss progress, and set goals for the year ahead. Interviews will be available in-person. Booking details will be sent out from the office via email.

Thank you for your continued support and involvement in our school community.

The following are a few reminders of upcoming events and some new information.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

In recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we held a school-wide assembly on September 26th to honour the lost children and survivors of residential schools, along with their families and communities. This important gathering provided an opportunity for reflection, learning, and a shared commitment to reconciliation.

Terry Fox Run

Peter Ewart’s Terry Fox Run is happening on Friday, October 10th. We have raised over $2000 in Terry Fox donations so far, surpassing last year’s fundraising total! This year, we are selling Terry Fox t-shirts that you can purchase on School Cash Online until Wednesday, October 1st. All proceeds from t-shirt sales go towards our school’s fundraising total, and the class that raises the most money in each grade will get a prize. Donations are being accepted online and in classrooms until Friday, October 10th. Thank you for your support!

Parent Teacher Interviews:

Parent Teacher Interviews will take place on October 22nd from 2:00-4:30pm and October 23rd  from 2:00-7:30pm. Both days are early dismissal days where students will be dismissed 1 hour early.

An email will be sent home to book interviews using School Appointments.

Retakes Picture Day:

Retakes will take place on October 14th in the morning.

Halloween Dance

The PAC is putting on a Halloween dance for our students on October 28th from 6-8pm.

Some Reminders:

Cell phones are not allowed. Students can use the office phones if they need to contact parents. If cell phones are brought, they will be put in an envelope with the student’s name on it and locked in the office until after the dance.

Costumes cannot have any weapons or replica weapons. Masks are not allowed.

No ins and outs. Once students are at the dance they cannot leave and come back.

Finally, this dance is for PEMS students only. Students need to bring their student ID (this was sent home after picture day) or some other form of identification that will be shown before entering the dance.

October 31st

Students are allowed to dress up at school on October 31st.  Again, costumes cannot include weapons or replica weapons.  Masks are not allowed.

From the District:

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Langley Event

As part of the District’s Truth and Reconciliation journey, we encourage our students, staff, and families to observe the day in their own way. Community partners in Langley are welcoming all members of the community to attend a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation event at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum on the evening of September 30th.

Communicating With Your School

Schools and families continue to work together to ensure success for students. If you have an issue or concern but don’t know who to speak with, the District encourages you to read these helpful Communicating with your School guidelines for parents/guardians found on our District website here.
