Newsletter #8 - December 19
Hello Peter Ewart Families,
As we approach the end of this last week before the winter break, I want to take a moment to thank you for your continued support and partnership. It has been a wonderful first term filled with learning, growth, and community.
We are so proud of the hard work and achievements of our students, and we hope they take time to relax, recharge, and enjoy the holiday season with loved ones.
School will resume on January 5th, and we look forward to welcoming everyone back refreshed and ready for an exciting new year.
On behalf of our staff, I wish you a joyful holiday season and a happy, healthy New Year!
The following are a few reminders of upcoming events and some new information.
Celebrating Mrs. Lively’s Retirement
This week is a very special week at Peter Ewart Middle School as we celebrate someone who has been with us since the very beginning, our incredible office assistant, Mrs. Lively!
If you’ve ever walked by the office, you know exactly who we’re talking about. She’s the friendly face who greets you with a smile, helps when you’re not feeling well, calls home when you forget your lunch, and somehow always has the answer to every question, even the ones we didn’t know we had!
Mrs. Lively joined Peter Ewart when we first opened our doors, and ever since, she’s been the heart of our school office. If schools had superheroes, she would definitely wear the cape! From finding missing attendance sheets to helping teachers in a pinch, and keeping things calm during the busiest moments, Mrs. Lively has saved the day countless times.
One of her most amazing traditions has been greeting students who arrive late each morning. Not only does she welcome them with kindness, but she knows so many of you by name—a true reflection of how much she cares about every student.
Mrs. Lively isn’t just great at her job; she cares deeply about people. She cares about YOU. She has been here for students, staff, and everyone who walks through our doors. That’s why today is bittersweet. We’re thrilled for her as she begins this new chapter in retirement, but we will miss her more than words can express.
Mrs. Lively, thank you for everything you’ve done to make Peter Ewart Middle School better, brighter, and kinder. From all of us, the office team and the entire Peter Ewart community, we wish you the very best.
Administration Change
We have an important update to share regarding our leadership team, and we want to take a moment to celebrate the incredible contributions of one of our own.
After a year and a half of dedicated service as Vice Principal at Peter Ewart Middle School, Mrs. Sabrina Sidhu will be moving to Yorkson Creek Middle School starting in the new year to continue her leadership journey as their Vice Principal. This transition is bittersweet for us, as Mrs. Sidhu has been such an integral part of our school family.
Mrs. Sidhu’s connection to Peter Ewart runs deep. She helped open Peter Ewart as a teacher, building strong relationships with students and families. She later expanded her experience at R.E. Mountain Secondary before returning to Peter Ewart as Vice Principal. Throughout her time with us, Mrs. Sidhu has demonstrated unwavering commitment to student success, staff support, and community engagement. Her leadership has been marked by compassion, professionalism, and a genuine care for every member of our school.
From championing student initiatives to fostering a positive and inclusive environment, Mrs. Sidhu has gone above and beyond to ensure that Peter Ewart is a place where everyone feels valued and supported. Her ability to listen, lead with empathy, and inspire excellence has left a lasting impact on our school culture. We are truly grateful for her hard work, her dedication, and the countless ways she has enriched our community. While we will miss her dearly, we know Yorkson Creek is gaining an exceptional leader.
At the same time, we are excited to welcome Ms. Erin Favero as our new Vice Principal. Ms. Favero joins us from Stafford Middle School, where she served as Vice Principal and earned a reputation for her collaborative approach and commitment to student well-being. Mrs. Favero brings a wealth of experience and a passion for middle school education, and we look forward to the fresh perspectives and energy she will bring to Peter Ewart.
Please join us in expressing heartfelt thanks to Mrs. Sidhu for her outstanding service and in warmly welcoming Ms. Favero to our school community.
Grade 8 Course Planning for RE Mountain Secondary
R.E. Mountain Secondary counsellors and admin will be coming to Peter Ewart on Jan. 7th to begin course planning with our grade 8s. Topics will include talking about what it is like to be a grade 9 student at R.E. Mountain Secondary as well as the course selection options available to all students. This is for students only and will be done in assembly style.
Willoughby Slope Catchments Information Sessions
The District is excited to be opening a new middle school and secondary school in the Smith neighbourhood on the Willoughby Slope in Fall 2027. The District is consulting with the community about catchment boundary changes that could impact children attending a middle and a secondary school on the Willoughby Slope now and in the future. The potential catchment boundary changes may also impact transition plans for elementary feeder schools.
There will be no changes to the catchment boundaries of elementary schools. The District welcomes all families to be informed and take part in the process. To attend an info session, read more here.
