Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS)

The Settlement Workers in Schools (SWIS) Program welcomes all newcomer students and families. SWIS staff provide settlement support and services with a focus on our school system, and guide families to resources and services available to them in Langley.

SWIS workers can assist with:

  • Registration for school and connecting parents with teachers and school programs.
  • Facilitation of workshops to enhance families’ understanding of Canadian culture.
  • Support the families in understanding the school system.
  • Making connections to adult language classes (LINC) and adult education.
  • Making connections to other community programs and services.

We offer:

  • Workshops and orientation sessions on the BC school system, post-secondary education, parenting, life in Canada, and much more.
  • Conversation circles to meet others and practice English.
  • After school activities for immigrant students (conversation circle, reading clubs, homework clubs and more).
  • Employment support for youth.
