Thinking About Upgrading Your Math?

1) How long is your grade good for?
  • Many programs require you to have completed the course within 5 years. Double check directly with your post-secondary institution regarding their specific prerequisite requirements. If you're unsure of how to proceed, please book an LEC Counselling Appointment or book a Math Consultation to ask about making a schedule that can fit in with the time frame that is required.
2) Unsure of what to take?
3) Do you need a certain grade?
  • Students who need a certain grade often try to take a math level that is too difficult for them.
  • Although teachers are here to teach and offer extra help, often, the only way to reach certain grades is to get the proper foundational math skills.
  • Langley Education Centre offers a free course called Pre-Math 11 that helps students build foundational math skills.  A math consultation teacher can go over the benefits of the course to help build a proper pathway for you.

4) Time is a factor
  • It is faster for students who are not ready for a grade 11/12 math course to take Pre-Math 11 first.  Students who lack fundamental math skills often find they need to repeat grade 11/12 math courses numerous times and still struggle to obtain the grade needed.
  • Those who complete Pre-Math 11 first gain understanding and confidence in their math skills and find their required grade 11/12 math course more manageable. As a result, they are typically able to obtain the grade needed.
5) How can I take Pre-Math 11?
  • Pre-Math 11 is currently offered in an online format with students working through these courses at their own pace. The teacher has drop-in and one-on-one sessions where in-person help is available.  View the Directed Learning Schedule
