The Bears' Beat - August 30, 2025

Information

Welcome!

BackSign.jpgIt's here! Our new school is here! We are so excited to have you joining us on this new learning adventure. If you missed last week's message about startup procedures and such, here's a link

Traffic

What a relief to see the light at the corner above the school and park is coming on line soon. When you travel to and from school on foot, please be mindful of staying safe. Kids, if you're walking alone, you have to pretend that you are invisible to every single car. Use the crosswalks. Use the lights. A few extra steps is worth it to be safe.

Summer homework?

Students, did you do any of the summer 'homework' we sent out? If you did, don't forget to ask your parents nicely to send any pictures to Mr. Oliver to use in our opening assembly (if you want to share those pictures, of course). They won't go on the website, but they could make a pretty cool slideshow.

Parent Code of Conduct

The Langley School District is committed to fostering safe and caring schools that promote mutual respect, cooperation, social responsibility, and support optimal learning. Trauma Informed Practices and Procedures promote the creation and maintenance of safe, inclusive, equitable, welcoming, and nurturing school environments.

Families play an important role in helping students achieve success as well as helping create a compassionate learning community. Just as students are expected to follow the District’s Student Code of Conduct, there is an expectation for parents/guardians to uphold the District’s Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct. The District’s Parent/Guardian Code of Conduct can be viewed on the District’s website here.

PAC Message

Thanks to all the PAC volunteers who organized the August community social in the park. It was a lovely event, and great to meet a few more members of our Josette Dandurand Elementary community. Special thanks to the staff who took time from their summer to drop by and say 'hi' as well.

Quote of the Week

'Let your joy be in your journey - not in some distant goal.' - Tim Cook

Something to read (or watch)

Ross Greene's work has influenced many of my interactions. I use this tool when working with your kids, my own kids, people I meet during the day, and even my own parents. Reframing behaviours isn't always an easy mental or emotional task, but it's always worth it.

This next one is easy to say, and appealing, but sometimes so hard to do....
