Information
Driveways & Safety
On our first rainy day (and it wasn't that rainy), i noticed a marked increase in the number of cars and of drivers dropping kids in unsafe areas ore leaving vehicles unattended while blocking others in. Please note the following procedures that we are using to keep everyone safe:
- We close the southeast crosswalk to cars before school when the flow of pedestrians becomes great enough. Most days, that is at about 8:40. If you arrive after that, and you need to park the car, please go around the school to the west side to park, or loop out and park on the street. You will see us open that closure for some students with specific mobility difficulties.
- We also close that crosswalk to cars after school when there is a 'rush' of pedestrians.
- Vehicles must not be left unattended in any of the traffic lanes. This includes beside parallel-parked cars on the south and west sides, and in the parking lot loop.
- If you are dropping your child beside a row of dropped cars, please swing around to the west side of the school, pull to the right and just drop and go. The driver should not be getting out of the car. Better yet, park on the street and walk in a block. It's safer and good exercise.
- If you are waiting in the car, please shut it off to keep our air clean.
- Please don't stop at any of the narrow points. It is tempting to let your child out there, but that is not a safe practice.
With everybody's cooperation, we can keep drivers moving, and drop-off/pick-up safe for all.
World Teachers Day
Yesterday was World Teachers Day. Don't forget to give your teacher som extra kudos on Monday!
Individual Photos
Thursday will be our individual student photos. We will have the youngest students go first so they don't have time to get messy (I hope).
October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month
Did you know that October is Rett Syndrome Awareness Month? Do you know what Rett Syndrome is? Rett Syndrome is a rare neurological disorder that affects motor skills, communication, and pretty much all aspects of daily life. In Rett Syndrome, which almost exclusively affects girls, skills a baby develops can go 'backwards' and be lost. The Mayo Clinic provides some excellent information about this very rare and incurable condition.

Student in Distress and School Safety
Health and safety are a priority in the Langley School District. Our schools follow procedures to help keep students, staff, and the community safe. Depending on the situation, communication to parents/caregivers is needed to keep families informed about incidents in our school, such as during lockdowns, hold & secures, and room clears, or in the event of a student in distress. Sometimes these situations may not be emergencies but events that require a school response. It is important to note that the decision to send communications to families is dependent on a variety of factors including the nature of what happened, who has witnessed or was directly impacted by what happened, as well as student and staff privacy. Communication is unique and dependent on the specific situation; there are times when a student is in distress, yet the situation may or may not require a message or letter to families. In addition to communication with parents/caregivers, teachers and staff may debrief with students after an incident that may have upset them. In some cases, the school counsellor may offer support to students in need. As always, we want families to let us know if your child requires support. If you have any questions or concerns about communication related to situations or emergencies, please reach out to the school.

Quote of the Week
Something to read (or watch)
Have you ever seen a Turkey Vulture? If you have, you'd remember it! They aren't the prettiest birds around. They are interesting, though, and they gather at this time of year near Victoria waiting for the conditions to be right for them to soar across the Strait of Juan de Fuca heading for their winter homes. I see them occasionally in the interior of BC, and once or twice I've seen them from Langley. They are pretty cool, if not pretty to look at.
