Information
First Full Day of Kindergarten!!!
Monday is the first full day of Kindergarten. Congratulations, Kindies! We're so excited to have you with us, and we hope you're just as excited to be here.
Walking to School & Driveway Traffic
Thank you to everyone who has been walking to school. It has helped keep the traffic moving smoothly and has kept everyone safe. Now we have a request for the people who walk. While we currently close the parking loop when the crosswalks get busy at drop-off time, there are still vehicles exiting the parking area. To keep yourself safe, please use the sidewalks if you are a pedestrian, rather than walking down the driveway. Likewise, if you are parked, please move across to the sidewalks when you walk towards the building.
Meet the Teacher Night
This Thursday, September 18, we will be holding a meet the teachers/open house from 5:30 to 6:30 pm. We hope you'll be able to join us.
Rocks & Gravel
On Thursday, I asked students (well, reminded them) that we need not to be digging holes in the gravel pad at the north end of the playground. While digging is fun, and it seems like a diggable surface, students have been uncovering bigger stones, and then throwing them. As you can imagine, we are discouraging this. If you are here outside of school hours, please work with us to keep your kids from digging holes in that area. We have already had a couple of turned ankles (including my own)
Rec ess.
See what I did there? If not, keep reading and you will.
I didn't want to do this, because I wanted to be pulling the school's learning community together instead of breaking us apart, but our observations of the playground over weeks one and two have us realizing that we need to split recess (now you see what I did there...) into two groups. Starting tomorrow, grades 1-4 will have recess 10:05-10:20 and lunch playtime from 11:25-11:55 while grades K and 5 will go out from 10:20-10:35 and 11:55-12:25. If you live within earshot of the bells, we apologize for the extra noise.
Terry Fox ran, now we run
Our Terry Fox Run will be on October 2, right after lunch. When you see us spill out of the gym, please join us for our school's first-ever Terry Fox Run. It will be the first of many.
Terry Fox donations can be made on school cash online or if you would like a tax receipt please donate here.
Before his death on June 28, 1981, Terry had achieved his once unimaginable goal of $1 from every Canadian. More importantly, he had set in motion the framework for an event, The Terry Fox Run, that would ignite cancer research in Canada, raising more than $850 million since 1980, and bring hope and health to millions of Canadians.

Parent Consent Request
Each year, Langley Schools asks families to complete a set of parent consent forms for their child. These consent forms are required by our schools to ensure the health, safety, and security of all students. Langley Schools uses a secure web form to collect this information. Beginning mid-September, please watch for an email request (subject Parent Consent Request) that contains one link for you to submit consents for all children in your family attending any Langley School. If your email address or contact information has changed, please call your school to correct it in our files. If you have not received an email regarding Parent Consent Request by the end of the month or have any questions/concerns, please contact your school administrator. The request addresses the following:
- Media release
- IT Acceptable Use
- PAC Consent
- Walking Field Trip
- Walking Home Alone
Make sure you complete these forms your child many not be able to participate on walking field trips, the use of technology (iPads/Robots) etc.
Communicating with your school
Schools and families continue to work together to ensure success for students. If you have an issue or concern but don’t know who to speak with, the District encourages you to read these helpful Communicating with your School guidelines for parents/guardians found on our District website here. As an additional reference, review this one-page resource here.
Blackberry clearing
Blackberries are delicious, but they don't belong here. They're actually an invasive species. You can help the Langley environment and the species that belong here at the GreenTeam event removing blackberries at the Derek Doubleday Arboretum on October 5.
Mr. Oliver, why are the flags at half-staff?
Today, September 14, is National Firefighters Memorial Day where we recognize and remember firefighters who died in the line of duty. The Minister's Statement about the day can be found here.
PAC Message
Thanks to the 49 parents who attended last week's PAC meeting! That's a record, we're sure! Next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, November 13.
