Reading Link Challenge
Congratulations to our Reading Link Challenge team who represented our school at the regional finals this week. Along with Ms. Evoy and Ms. McNeil, these avid readers read a collection of books and worked as a team to remember as much as they could, facing off against other schools' champions to see who knew the most about what they had read. We are so proud of Inha, Hayden, John, Julio, Kathleen and Mehrish for their third place finish! Well done, team!

Safety first!

I'm so happy with how many families are commuting actively to school. Our bike racks are always full, and kids are arriving energized. I'm less happy with how many students I see riding their bikes and scooters at speed near crowds of families arriving, and I'm even less happy with how many kids aren't wearing helmets. I'm a bit biased because my helmet has saved me from a couple of crashes that could have been devastating, and I'm even more acutely aware as my sister is an Occupational Therapist who works with patients who are re-learning to walk and feed themselves and such after brain injuries, often preventable ones. Please, if your child (or you) come to school by bike or scooter, remember that helmet and walk those wheels once you're here.

Treasure hunt
Our field is a lucky place, and our students are lucky people. After all, why else would so many four-leaf clovers be getting found? On Friday, a group of students spent one recess poring over sections of the field looking for these lucky little plants. One kid walked over, bent down, picked a clover and said, 'Do you mean like this?' That's lucky indeed.

European research suggests that four-leaf clovers occur once for about every 5000 three-leaf clovers. And there can be variations with even more leaves (and that are even more rare!). The world record is a bred (not found in the wild) 63-leaf clover! Yikes! Follow the link to learn more at wikipedia!
