Principal’s Message
Dear Glenwood School Community,
Welcome to the 2025-2026 school year. Glenwood Elementary is a special place for students to learn, grow, gain independence and flourish in our community and beyond. Our team of teachers and support staff are dedicated to the learning and emotional needs of every student in our school.
Glenwood is located in the beautiful rural community known as Fernridge and is part of the Langley Township. Located at the corner of 208th Street and 24th Avenue. Glenwood is considered a small school of 210 students in grades Kindergarten to Grade 7. We are known as the Glenwood Lions and our school spirit and sense of community roars like the lion. Currently, we have 11 divisions and we have an 80 year old separate two room school house adjacent to the main school. This beautiful building has two classes and is utilized to meet our students learning needs. There are two portable units on the school site which house two divisions.
Glenwood’s PAC provides ongoing support to our school and organizes fundraisers, hot lunches, the Christmas Craft Fair Market, the Scholastic Book Fair, Trunk or Treat, Field Trips for the whole school and are a dedicated and supportive group of parents. Being involved in the school PAC is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Please attend a PAC meeting and become a part of this amazing part of our community.
Volleyball, basketball and other activities are part of school life at Glenwood for our intermediate students. Our dedicated coaches volunteer their time and effort to provide sports and other activities for our students.
Our community garden is a focal point of our school. Each class has their own plot which they look after and learn about growing our own food. We will celebrate with a Harvest Soup Day in the fall.
We recognize our students for their great efforts. All students throughout the school are eligible to receive recognition for exemplifying good citizenship – awards are given out when a Glenwood student ROARS (Respect Others And Respect Selves). Recipients are nominated monthly by their classroom teachers. Each month one of our Grade Seven Leaders is nominated by their classmates for the Class Act Award and t-shirt. The Grade Sevens at Glenwood enjoy serving their community by helping younger students.
Our older students in Divisions 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 buddy up with younger students in Divisions 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11 to support them in buddy reading and help out with other engaging activities. Older students also volunteer as classroom monitors at recess on rainy days and during the eating period at lunchtime.
When visitors walk into Glenwood it is evident that "Kids Come First" and the positive learning environment that students experience every day.
Please come and visit our little school that is an important part of the beauty and charm in Fernridge.
Kindly,
Ms. C.A. Harvie
