Principal’s Message

Welcome to Betty Gilbert Middle School, a vibrant and inclusive community where every student is known, valued, and inspired to succeed.

At BGMS, our work is rooted in the Langley School District’s core values:

  • Integrity, in the way we foster trust and accountability,
  • Courage, in how we advocate for what’s right and take bold steps in learning and leadership,
  • Excellence, in the pursuit of high standards for all, and
  • Community, in our commitment to connection, collaboration, and care.

These values are reflected in our daily practices, interactions, and the shared responsibility we hold to create a school where students thrive both academically and socially.

Our School Action Plan centers around three key pillars:

Literacy, Numeracy, and Belonging. We are working intentionally to ensure that every student builds strong foundational skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. These academic pillars are supported by our collective focus on belonging, because we know that when students feel connected and seen, they are more confident, more resilient, and more ready to learn.

As a staff, we are committed to creating brave, safe, and inclusive learning environments that celebrate diversity, foster empathy, and encourage student voice. We believe that learning should be meaningful and rooted in relationships, and we work every day to ensure students have the support they need to grow into curious, capable, and compassionate young people.

We are proud to serve the students and families of Aldergrove and grateful for the trust you place in us. Together, with our families, community partners, and district colleagues, we are building a school culture where every child can reach their full potential.

I look forward to the year ahead and all the learning, laughter, and leadership it will bring.

Warmly,
Aaron Powell
