A Message from the Langley Board of Education

Before we end the school year, the Langley Board of Education would like to take this opportunity to reflect on our collective achievements and also look forward to the many exciting developments that are on the horizon.
Thank you to students, staff, and families for your continued support in helping us meet the goals of the Strategic Plan, our commitment to the journey of Truth and Reconciliation, and diversity, equity and inclusion. We deeply appreciate the collaborative efforts in helping learners reach their full potential and fostering an inclusive and nurturing culture in our schools to ensure that everyone feels a sense of belonging.
There is much to celebrate this year. We look forward to the opening of Josette Dandurand Elementary in the fall. We are proud to honour Josette Dandurand, who was an advocate for Indigenous rights and former cultural presenter in the District, and we will continue her legacy in the community. We are pleased with the expansion work which is continuing at three schools – modular projects at Lynn Fripps and Nicomekl elementaries, and a 12-classroom addition at Langley Secondary. We are also pleased with the recent purchase of land in the Southwest Latimer area, which will be the site of a new elementary school. We are excited about all these projects, as we work to ease enrolment pressures and improve learning environments for students, including our priority learners. The Board will continue to advocate for the building of schools and more educational spaces to help support our growing community.
The Board recognizes that summer can be a busy time for many of our staff in operations and those school staff assisting with Summer Session. Thank you to staff for taking on this important work to complete projects and continue to provide learning opportunities for students. For those that are away for summer break, we hope you all enjoy some time off with family and friends, and we look forward to seeing you in September.
Have a wonderful summer!
Candy Ashdown, Chair
