A Great Year Ahead For Langley Students

As summer break comes to an end many Langley families will be excited and nervous about the opening week of school.  Some students will be entering the school system for the first time, others will be new to the community or making a transition to middle or secondary school, and for many it will be an opportunity to re-connect with friends and staff.  All staff will do their very best to provide a warm welcome to students upon their return and provide a positive learning environment for students to succeed.  While we are very fortunate be a growing school district in terms of student numbers, this combination with the new contract language will place pressure on our system in terms of space and available teachers.  Despite our best efforts some students will face delays or challenges in their educational programming as we work through school opening.  However, we are committed as a school district to address these challenges as quickly as possible and work with families to meet the needs of their children.

I look forward over the course of this year to updating the Langley community on a number of exciting educational initiatives underway for this year.  The implementation of the re-designed curriculum continues to provide a number of great opportunties for students.  This year will also be the start of our new outdoor school program at Fort Langley elementary and we will also be focusing upon developing entrepreneurial skills for all of our students grades K to 12, culminating in a showcase event in May.  In addition, Langley Education Centre will be offering an Aviation Explorations 12 course!  The District transition to Middle school continues along with the renovation of Langley secondary school, the expansion of R C Garnett Demonstration school in Willoughby, and the building of the new secondary school in Willoughby.  Furthermore, we continue to work towards providing an inclusive environment that is supportive and respectful of all of our learners in our diverse community and provides them with the resources to be successful.

It is shaping up to be an exciting year for Langley students!
