Young Entrepreneurs in Langley Schools

One of the strategic plan goals for the Langley School District this year is to support the development of the entrepreneurial mindset for all of our students grades K to 12. One part of this undertaking is to provide students with the opportunity to showcase products that they have designed. Recently students at Lynn Fripps, James Kennedy, and West Langley elementary schools were able to showcase and sell their products to family and friends at their schools. Plenty of learning occurred during this process as students developed business plans and created their products and marketing plans. Students were able to borrow money from parents which they were to repay and then also donate ten percent of any profits to their favorite charity. A social purpose component is a major focus of the entrepreneurial experience. In addition, skills are developed in financial literacy, design, marketing, organization, and communication. Way to go students! We look forward to our District entrepreneurship IDEA Summit that will take place on May 8th at the Langley Events Centre.

On December 12th the Board of Trustees announced the name of the new secondary school that will open for September 2019. The community were overwhelmingly in favour of maintaining the R E Mountain name for the new school and the Trustees unanimously supported this choice. We look forward to the opening! Prior to the announcement the Trustees and District staff were treated to a performance from the R E Mountain Chamber Choir conducted by Choir Director Jen Williams. They were absolutely awesome!

Once again there are so many outstanding opportunities for students in Langley. I am very thankful for all of our administrators, teachers, and support staff that make Langley such an inspiring learning community. I wish all of our staff, students, and families the very best for the Christmas holidays and look forward to the New Year that will once again provide many more highlights.
