APALS – Aboriginal Parents As Literacy Supporters
The people who started this project believe that when parents are involved in their children’s education their children do better.
PALS is a program for parents and their primary children. It is designed to improve the children’s performance in reading and writing at school and to build the connection between home and school. It will begin in October and sessions will run approximately every month.
Shape of each session:
- In the classroom working together, adults and children 3:30-5:00 p.m.
- Debrief/Make and take
- Home time
*Each session, families will go home with a “goodie bag” which will support the topic we have been working on.
Some of our topics are:
- ABC’s – Learning
- Print in our Community
- Storybook Reading
- Early Math
- Reading and Writing
- Riddles, Raps and Rhymes
- Linking Literacy & Play
