June 17, 2020
At its Regular Board meeting on Tuesday, June 16, 2020, the Board of Education announced it is acknowledging June 22 – 26 as Langley Grad Week 2020 in support of graduating students in the District.
“We are proud of all of your accomplishments and for helping make our District an innovative, inspiring and unified learning community. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all of the parents/guardians, families, and staff who have supported our students in their educational journey,” said Megan Dykeman, Board Chair.
As part of the week, a series of actions are taking place to help highlight our grads and bring the community together.
The City of Langley will raise two banners on Fraser Highway Highway (one east of 200th Street, and the other west of the Langley Bypass at 209th Street) in support of grads for the entire week. The banner will read “Congratulations Grads of 2020.”
On June 22, the Township of Langley will light up the Cole Harmony Bridge on 200th Street at 68th Avenue in green, one of the brand colours for the Langley School District, to help kick off the week and support our grads.
During the week, the Langley Events Centre will be acknowledging grads with a message on its electronic sign board.
The District and Board of Education is inviting members of the community to take the opportunity next week to highlight our graduates in their own way, online and at home. “Whether you’re a business owner, organization, or resident, we encourage you to celebrate with them,” adds Dykeman.
“This is a unique year, and no one would have predicted the pandemic,” noted Gord Stewart, Superintendent of Schools for the Langley School District. “If we can say to our grads, we appreciate them and let them know they are wonderful people, in any way possible during that week, would be great. We hope to see the community behind this.”
The District and Board of Education is also challenging grads to ‘give back’ to the community as they close this chapter of their education career and start a new phase in life.
The public is invited to use the hashtag #SD35Grad2020 on social media next week.
