Superintendent Seconded, Assistant Superintendents Appointed

Superintendent Suzanne Hoffman has been seconded by the Ministry of Ed (media release) to join a team of field-based educators to work with school districts around the province on curriculum, assessment and reporting. Effective May 1, Gord Stewart will be Acting Superintendent of Schools.

Two Assistant Superintendents have been appointed to the District Leadership Team (media release): Director of HR Mal Gill will now be an Assistant Superintendent and Edward (Woody) Bradford will be joining us in Langley from Abbotsford School District in the Assistant Superintendent role.

National Award Winning Staff

LTA President Gail Chaddock-Costello and LTA VP Richard Beaudry were recognized for their work by the Canadian Library Association (CLA) and presented the 2016 award for the Advancement of Intellectual Freedom in Canada. Awarded in March, the CLA stated that the honour was given for “their demonstrated leadership and exceptional courage in resisting censorship and opposing violations of intellectual freedom in school libraries and schools”. The Langley Times published a well-deserved article which can be found here: ‘Pair lauded for taking a stand against library censorship’.

School Websites are Multi-Lingual

A very recent update to the district and school websites includes the Google Translate feature – check out the upper right corner of your school website and you will see ‘Contact’ with ‘Translate’ right under it. It is hoped that this feature will be helpful with many in our diverse Langley community. Google Translate is not always perfect but it will allow visitors to get the gist of the information on the site and hopefully encourage questions of follow-up.

Happy Campers

EdCamp35 was Saturday, April 16 at HDSMS and nearly 100 participants to part in this ‘un-conference’.
