All Candidates Meeting comes to Brookswood Secondary

May 2, 2017

The BC Liberal, NDP, and Green party were represented in a candidate debate on April 28 at Brookswood Secondary. Mary Polak represented the Liberals, Gail Chaddock-Costello represented the NDP, and Elizabeth Walker represented the Green Party.

The town-hall style meeting was organized by teachers Katie Glover and Kaitlin Neufeld. Taking place in the school’s theatre, grade 11 students gathered to listen.

Ten students, representing five different social studies classes, came prepared with questions to ask the candidates. Questions ranged from homelessness, to minimum wage, to the public school budget. Candidates answered the questions in turn, often struggling to stay within their allotted speaking time.

The town hall was followed up with an open forum for students to ask the three candidates questions.

The aim is to engage students in politics as they approach voting age.
