Truth and Reconciliation

Principal of Aboriginal Education Mike Pue provided an update to the Board of Education on Truth and Reconciliation. He started his presentation by thanking staff in Aboriginal Education and acknowledging Traditional Territories. He focused on the importance of learning and how Reconciliation is a reflective journey that requires each individual to hold Indigenous Knowledge as Equal to Knowledge that has come from elsewhere, and examine deeply their relationship to Indigenous People. He provided reflections from the District’s Orange Shirt Day initiatives from schools across the District. He highlighted the District’s Cultural Presenters Program, and the work in teaching language and culture, for example the creation of the hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ webpage on the District website. He outlined the importance of the TRC’s 94 calls to action but also noted the work required from individuals. He closed the presentation with two resources shared with the Board of Education.
