Langley Celebrates International Day of Pink

April 11, 2017

District schools are recognizing April 12th as International Day of Pink. The Day of Pink is the International Day against Bullying, Discrimination, Homophobia, and Transphobia across the world. Schools invite everyone to celebrate diversity by wearing a pink shirt and by attending organized activities in their schools. To mark this special day, schools will be receiving lesson plans and ideas to use on the day as well as the new highly anticipated ‘safe space’ stickers. The district is proud to have created a distinct Langley version of the BCTF rainbow sticker – created by a WGSS student. The stickers will be offered to staff to put up in a visible space to indicate that they are a safe person for those who identify as LGBTQ+. In addition, all elementary and middle schools have recently received a box of books with resources and lesson plans to share in their classrooms. Secondary school librarians will also be receiving monies to purchase LGBTQ+ positive books to enhance the school’s libraries.
