The Board of Education has passed a motion requesting District staff to begin the consultation process for the District Calendars for 2016-2017, 2017-2018 and 2018-2019.

In past calendar consultations, community members have indicated that alignment with other Metro and Fraser Valley Districts around aligning Spring and Winter breaks has been a major concern. Therefore efforts are being made to align the dates of major calendar events with neighbouring districts.

Days not in session (shown in red or orange) may move as they are ‘placeholders’. Non-instructional days will come forward when specific school calendars are brought before the Board in the spring of each year.

This consultation is complete.

  • Background Information

Under Bill 36: School Amendment Act, Districts are required to create district calendars. In May
of 2013 the previous Board of Education approved calendars through to the conclusion of the
current 2015-16 school year. District staff will now be bringing forward calendars for the next
    three school years (2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19).
Past consultations with the community have indicated a strong desire to align vacation times
with other districts. Subsequently, the proposed calendars will align with those school districts
that have already published calendars for the upcoming years. Metro and Fraser Valley school
districts acknowledge the need for alignment and communicate regularly to this end.
Individual local school calendars for the 2016-17 school year will be brought forward at the
March regular meeting of the Board.
Approved school calendars must be made public by May 31st of each year as per Bill 36, Section
    87.02(3).
