Board of Education Message
The Board of Education passed a motion Tuesday, April 7 to consider the possible permanent closure of Lochiel U-Connect and to move the program to Simonds Elementary. A public consultation period is now underway and you are invited to provide input to feedback@sd35.bc.ca or via a public meeting May 13th. A final decision will be made at a Special Meeting of the Board of Education on June 9, 2015 at 7pm at the School Board Office. The possible closure of the Lochiel U-Connect site is a part of the Long Term Facilities Plan and Five Year Capital Plan. Current information will be made available on this page.

C. Public Consultation
3. The Board should take the following steps to ensure that an open and meaningful public consultation has taken place:• make available, in writing, a full disclosure of all facts and information considered by the Board with respect to any proposed school closure, including:
- detailed reasons for the proposed school closure;
- which specific school(s) are being considered for closure;
- how the proposed closure would affect the current catchment area for each school;
- the general effect on surrounding schools;
- the number of students who would be affected at both the closed school(s) and surrounding schools;
- the future enrolment growth in the district of persons of school age, persons of less than school age, and adults;
- the effect of proposed closures on board-provided student transportation;
- educational program/course implications for the affected students;
- the proposed effective date of the closure(s);
- financial considerations;
- impact on the Board’s five year capital plan;
- consideration of alternative community use for all or part of the school;
- proposed use of the closed school(s) including potential lease or sale.
