Golfers Tee Off for Student Wellness at Foundation Tournament

Nearly 150 golfers teed off at Newlands Golf and Country Club last week in support of student wellness at the annual Langley School District Foundation tournament.
In total, 36 teams – and 144 golfers in total – took part in the fun, day-long event, which was a scramble-style format featuring participants from the local business community, as well as other community members and District staff.
And while golfers battled the course and the summer heat, the fundraising tally also rose like a thermometer; the tournament exceeded its fundraising goal of $90,000. Proceeds from the tournament go towards supporting student mental-health initiatives.
“Our students’ well-being and mental health is so important, and it’s so wonderful to see our community come together once again to support Langley students,” said Langley School District Foundation executive director Alicia Rempel.
In addition to the best-ball style tournament, this year’s event featured vendors and booths scattered throughout the 18-hole course. Prior to tee off, a putting contest was held, and after golfers made their final putts, they moved inside for a dinner and online and live auction. In total, 166 people attended the post-tournament banquet, which was highlighted by a moving speech from a Langley School District secondary student who has been helped by the Foundation’s efforts.
