Sept. 18th @ 11:00 pm.  Teachers have voted in favour of ratifying the agreement.  School will start on Monday, September 22.

Here is some information for you regarding the first day only (Monday, September 22.)

   Warning Bell: 8:46     Start Bell: 8:51     Dismissal at lunch time 12:20

Busses will be operating that day and if you have registered for the bus, the transportation department should already have been in contact with you regarding pick up and drop off locations and times.

Kindergarten students do not attend on Monday, September 22.  School staff will be in touch with Kindergarten families on Monday to arrange details regarding a slightly reduced gradual entry schedule and interview times for families and teachers.

All grades 1 to 5 students should bring some basic supplies with them.  A keytab, duotang, or binder with some looseleaf paper along with a pencil would be recommended for Monday.  Also bring a recess snack.

Students who attended Willoughby last year, most of you will return to your last year's teacher and classroom for Monday.  (Mrs. Sahota's class will report to room 14).

Students new to Willoughby and who have already registered previously should report to the gym at the starting bell.

Students new to Willoughby and who have NOT yet registered should report to the office with their registration documents (see below for what you need to bring.)

 

Tues, Wed, Thu - Grade 1-5 students will be in session for the full day (8:51-2:45).  Grades 2-5 will continue reporting to their temporary attendance class first thing in the morning.  Grade 1s will report to the library where Mrs. Kelly, Mr. Milner and other staff will welcome the grade 1s and take attendance.  On these days all students will be dismissed at 2:45 from their first thing attendance class.

Please note that the class groupings during the first week are temporary.  We are aiming to have students into their actual classes on Friday, September 26th.

 

School photo day was originally planned for Sept. 23.  It is postponed to Thursday, October 9th.

Kindergarten Interviews and Gradual Entry

The District is committed to providing children entering their Kindergarten year a smooth transition by honouring the gradual entry process that has existed for the past few years.   As this is an exceptional school opening, and for this year only, the District is reducing the entire length of the graduated entry process from what may have been 10 days to a maximum of 6 days.  Parents are anxious to have their children begin school as quickly as possible, but schools also need to ensure that this will be a positive and educationally sound entry for their students, thus the rationale for the compromise.  School staff will be in touch to arrange your interview times and gradual entry schedule.

New Registrations

If during the labour dispute, you need to register your child for school, please email Mr. Leung (caleung@sd35.bc.ca) to find out how to send in your information to begin the registration process.

Please see the district page to download the first part of the required registration form and important information regarding registration and placement in schools. 

You will need to bring the following documents/items with you to register:

1) Proof of age (child's birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, or citizenship card)

2) Parent citizenship documents (birth certificate, passport, immigration papers, or citizenship card)

3) Proof of residency in Willoughby catchment (purchase/rental agreement, driver's license, or utility bill)

4) CareCard number for child (if you have one)

5) Final report card from last year (new Kindergarten registration do not have/need a previous report card)

Cross Boundary Requests

Parents must register in their catchment school first. 

The home/catchment school will provide a cross-boundary request form to be taken to the other school.

Parents will receive notification from the cross-boundary school by June 16th whether the admission is approved, denied, or deferred until September (this means you might not know if you have a seat in the cross-boundary school until after school starts.)


If you have not yet registered your child for school, please call the school office or come by the school with the documents indicated above.
